There are many past threads that go into this, but I have a bit of time so here goes. Assuming you are using windows, the most widely used software for video capture is Fraps, which can be downloaded at fraps.com either as trial or full version. This software captures footage from SL in uncompressed avi. format. You can control the resolution, either full or half screen size. Once you have the desired footage you need to edit it using any editing program that accepts avi., which is virtually all of them. In order to get good fluid motion, don't rely on the clients camera controls. Use a 3d mouse such as the 3dconnexion space navigator or an x-box joy-pad. You could also use a bit of inworld software called filming path, by Geuis Dassin. Above all you need a bit of internal software called obsession! Hope that helps a bit:)

I would add to that shopping list...

If you are going to make anywhere near professional movies in SL, you will need to have a pretty good system. It is not all about GC'd, System Ram and CPU's though, they help a lot. If you are capturing in avi format, that will be uncompressed and in my opinion, the best to work with. I use HyperCam, as it allows me to freehand draw the capture screen region that I want to capture. I can not only choose which section of the screen I want, but also the format (portrait, landscape, square etc) by default.

Also consider a good HD system. At avi you are going to get quite a lot of data flow. At the resolutions I capture at, I get around 10mb per second, which I save onto a Raid setup of 2.6tb SATA II HD's, each of the 8 HD's have their own controller and 16mb cache. The OS and programmes are run off 2 SATA HD's.

Once I have the footage, I drop that into Sony Vegas and use pan/crop to align each segment of media to fit the templates I have created.
