Gestures, or lipsynch.

If you want to capture the facial movements in camera, then it comes down to gestures.
LL has some gestures in the standard library for trying to make your face move, you can experiment with those. In your inventory, go to the bottom folder of objects that everyone gets inworld, and look in gestures for a "Speech" folder. There are also built in animations like screaming that can help. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Internal_Animations Geuis Dassin also sells "Motor Mouth" in world: Filming Path Studios, Morton's Gully (202, 17, 34) Motor Mouth animates your face based on the SLVoice audio stream. So, you talk in SLVoice, it animates your face. Geuis has a demo there for you to try and see. The problems with any gesture based system is that synchronization can be way off and that if you are your own camera, the facial gestures can interfere with camera control gestures. You can also try the lipsynch viewer, which is a patched version of the SL viewer. The lipsynch patches are threatening to appear in the regular viewer soon, probably because lipsynch has appeared in other games and virtual worlds. Facial (and hand) posing in SL is something of a black art, and more art than science. You will probably find the a combination of in-world and post-production edits are needed to get what you want. I think most people slap a texture over the mouth and apply the proper mouth positioning in post, using something like Crazy Talk. |

Wow thanks so much!
I think I will try the motor mouth thing. I have summers off and will toy with a few projects that will require my voice to move when I speak. Thanks again! _____________________

Here is an example of what you can do with CrazyTalk http://www.wba-advertising.com/MusicContest/waitforme.html a hi-res 2d was taken of the avatar, passed through CrazyTalk and then chroma screened into the movie footage.
I have seen whole productions, from a sci-fi and even shakespear using CrazyTalk overlays, one used just the mouth which was them painstakingly key framed over the avatars own mouth in the movie. It depends on what you want to acheive. In CrazyTalk, you can apply layers of 'Emotives' and even control individual parts of the head using a function called 'Puppeterring'. _____________________
