During a brainstorm session on the night of The Happening we* came up with the concept of One Minute Machinima. One Minute Machinima are meant to be a compelling window to the non-SL world to show them what they are missing. When we started distributing a few internally to SL friends, we realized it was also a great way to show current SL'ers fun things to do. After watching our machinima, tons of friends ran out to Cubey's place for a parachute, to try the things they have seen in the for themselves. One Minute Machinima are quick to shoot. Over a weekend one can knock out a bunch of little films and we encourage everyone to do it! We are saving a few of them up so we can do a regular vblog with them After shooting a few we decided to document our process in "Making One Minute Machinima". Our two machine approach works good for us because we have the equipment and it maintains a great frame-rate on the camera, but it's not for everyone. Check out Eric Linden's primer to learn more about shooting them with Fraps. Fraps, iMovie, it doesn't matter... lets kick a bunch of these out and post them all over the net, vblogs, youtube, google videos, video ipods, etc.... * this idea was largely jacked from Torrone Trumbo 's brain who remains a big supporter of the concept.

Can't wait to try out the s-video solution to hardware / software overextension, Satchmo.

Really nice, crisp tutorial--thanx for sharing it!
Hopefully resources like this will help more Resis out and get them inspired to make their own motion pictures in here.

Not been making machinima myself, but I have had to record video game footage...
a good alternative to two machines is one PC and a digital camcorder with s-video or alternative input (not all are so equipped, the one I used was soemthing like a Canon MV600i - the 'i' indicated it could input s-video).
They can be a bit of pain to set up - and will require a graphics card with suitable output - but a viable alternative all the same.

We've started recording a little bit with Fraps on a high end machine as per Eric Lindens' "Machinima in Second Life". Both techniques have their place for sure. After we get better with this technique maybe we'll right another how to.
