I've always been a fan of the shallow depth of field look and using focus/defocus to convey new information and stuff like that. Do you think there are any plans to integrate a feature like that for filmmakers in SL? Would that even be probable? God I hate this unlimited depth of field thing. :(

One thing you might try doing, take a scene with say one actor further away from the 'camera', then chroma key another actor in the foreground. When you want to switch focus, add gaussian blur to one of the scenes progressively, while de-blurring the other, making the camera appear to refocus through a shallow depth of feild.

I did something similar with 3 actors all chroma keyed into a scene at different ranges, and the host scene without actors, so I could blur that at will to match. You can do this in Vegas using the timeline for each layer of effect and layer of movie.

You can also using the environment editor in the SL client, increase the distance multiplier for haze in the atmospherics tab. I did that in the Twilight Zone RP movie, creating 3 distinct layers for depth of feild, so I could use the lightening effect on each one.

I haven't had time to play with the daytime editor yet, but I believe, you can make different settings using keyframes at given intervals, then play the editor whilst filming.

hmmm-- that's a good idea! I thought about it. Certainly it's more time consuming to set up but for particular shots it'll probably be worth it. thanks awm!

keyframes in daytime editor?? Oh I'll have to check that out
