A friend was tossing out some computer junk
and there was an old dusty Cobra 303 joystick in
the heap. So I put it to good use: Flycamming.

Some initial results after getting the stick somewhat
calibrated....

Pardons on the YouTube quality. Moving to
blip.tv...

Also, the videos are not slowed down...they are
real time which shows the level of control the
joystick offers...

I bought a Logitech Dual Action gamepad at the weekend and used the flycam.. the results we very promising with the exception of the zoom in and out speeds, which are at best about 1/4 of the other speeds. I couldn't calibrate those functions as it was mapped to -1. I played with the 'Scale' and various other settings, but could not improve the zoom speed. Using two thumb joysticks to control yaw, pitch, up/down etc made for some interesting results. I did remap the functions to make the use of twin thumb joysticks relatively smooth 3D movement. Perhaps if anyone else has had luck adding a zoom speed step function using /one/some of the other programmable buttons available on the gamepad, would be useful.

Oh, the guy on the deck chair at the begining of the first movie, does he shave his legs, or are they his girlfriends.. or is he/she a female with a beard? lol.. j/k

Just jack up the Scale to 10+ on whatever axis you've set forward/backward and it'll
fly! But with this old hardware I'm using, anything past 4 or 5 get's dodgy.

One trick I've learned is to run through the scene path you want to film with
the stick first without whatever capture program you're running so that
everything get's cached. Then do it again for the capture.

And I'd like to add the Filming Path is still a better overall filming tool. The only
drawback is that one needs to have build permissions to lay out the path.

I tried jacking up the scale, all it seemed to do was create a fisheye effect to the view. We have our own version of the Filming path system... we had it made for us before I knew of the good work Geuis was doing, it requires perms to 'drop objects' and works very well.

Madonna's marina... Just a simple drop in...there's a pop
at the end of the audio clip but such is life....
