Americafree.tv is not in quicktime format anymore

Any other good source of movies?


UPDATE: Only some channels of Americafree.tv are not available in QuickTime format. The most of them are okay. Sorry for the half-false alarm.

Yes. I just noticed that too in my theatre in SL. BUMMER!

I think it's about time for SL to support Flash video.

The story I heard is that the guy who wrote the original
streaming code for SL was a Mac head and went with
Quicktime. In other words, there's no good reason why
Quicktime is the preferred codec for streaming video in
SL.

Unfortunately I don't have any good alternatives to mention
for Americafree.tv. It was great while it lasted (well it's
still great, just can't stream it in SL anymore).

Btw, I wrote them to complain. Anyone else interested, should
do the same.

Tell them you need to stream in Second Life via Quicktime.

The archive.org stuff seems to play okay.

I just got a reply from americafree.tv. They sent me this URL:

They still support Quicktime streaming.

Thats good to hear Infared - I also think Quicktime was used because its compatible with PC and Mac. I tell you, as someone who streams quicktime into world, its not the easier bugger to play with. When SL finally comes around to improving the media player and adopting other formats, I think thats when things will really get interesting.

I heard through the grapevine.. SL's media player is being revamped this year to include a whole raft of formats, including flv (flash) and many others.

I'd like to see action scripts enabled in media (not currently availabe through the QT pluggin), which is unliscensed beyond flash version 3 (pre-action scripts).

BTW Flash can be played in QT, pre-version 3. Only drawback, its not enabled by default, as is many other formats.
