Thinkerer Studios announces the first video of a series: "Tales from the Metaverse."
"Tales from the Metaverse" began in Winter 2007 in a playwriting workshop run by Nebbisk Oh with writers from INKsters Competitive Writers Guild.

This effort resulted in about 6 plays, including this one, "Jim Comes to Tea"

The Avatar Repertory Theater, led by Ada Radius, performed 3 of these plays in the fall 0f 2008 as a Halloween series. These plays are now being produced as videos to make them available to the general public.

The video, with text information, is available at:

These plays have been developed from conception to production in Second Life.

The use of narrator in this manner gives the piece somewhat of a "Twilight Zone" feel.

That was the plan. The other scripts will do the same, except that Sodovan may change to a cockroach. That may bring in a little Kaffka feel.

Preserving Performance
12-23-2008 21:22
The Tales From The Metaverse plays were performed 3 times during the original Halloween production. The nature of live theatre is that it always varies from one performance to another, that is especially true of SL productions.
What happens when a performance is preserved on film or video ?
Some might think that spontaneity and unpredicability are lost in fixing live performance in an unchanging medium. Or you may think, as I do, that preserving plays performed in a Sl so that they can be viewed outside of SL by a wider audience is awesome.

Thats like comparing the Theatre with a Cinema.. both have their merits and againsts.

Somehow seeing a comedian or a band live is the pinacle, not quite the same on a DVD. However, the human brain over time, stores only the best and worst elements of any event. Movies can preserve the best bits forever :¬)

Video Versus Vivo

Fortunately, in SL we get to have it all . The Avatar Repertory Theater will be doing live presentations again and again. The other 2 Halloween shows will be done as videos (probably by Thudergas Menges) On video, your can show them to your grandmother -- or grand kids. The actors and writers can take copies and treat them as a portfolio. Won't get them into MGM, but might get them into writing or acting classes. These people are professionals. It is a pleasure to work with them.
