Media Players borked?

Not so much of a movie theme/topic par sa, but as it effects anyone perhaps using media players ingame, felt it of more interest here.

Apart from actually creating media for streaming ingame, we also develop media playing systems in SL. The 2 basic systems we offer are based on standard media players and the Silver Stream Network.

With the 'new' inclusion of media choices suddenly introduced by LL to the land media, we find the strangest set of permutations that have created issues:

Standard Media systems
1) On some parcels, standard media players will no longer function, on others they do. I have triple checked every items but remains a mystery. It is also the same on 2 different parcels that we own.
2) When someone buys a standard media player, some find they cannot open the playlist note card in contents, even though it shows, and they have, full permissions. Clearing group and personsal caches does nothing. The only indicator seems to the the Aquired (unknown) flag in the permissions window, preventing the asset server being able to determine when they began ownership.
3) On some parcels, even with the default texture being blanked, the media players are unable to set the media texture from the player. This works on over 50% of the parcels installed, with exactly the same settings (yes we have double checked permissions, and for other players installed etc). It also happened on 2 of our 7 parcels of land that we own.
4) Dropping a new full perms version of the playlist note card, results in the system reporting neither the current owner, or the creator, having sufficient permissions to do so.

Silver Stream Network systems.
1) Where standard systems no longer function, the Silver Stream does, mainly because it doesn't use standard media settings on the land, but the same issue as #2 above exists in some cases.
2) In some cases, same issue as #4 above.

Existing systems that have functioned for a couple of years, now seemed to be borked, but the same system in a different parcel (on the same sim) function normally. Installing systems, leaving ownership with the creator, but shared with the group that own the land, seems to overcome some of the issues. In either cases, in order to assist our clients, we have had to leave the systems with full mod rights, leaving us vulnerable to missuse and potential theft.

We have tried, setting the permissions to the TV/players and then adding a full perms playlist note card, doing it before hand, neither of which made any difference.

This does not happen to every system we sell, it is a relatively small percentage, what's annoying is, despite spending hours trying to resolve issues, we come up against a brick wall when the playlist has 'Aquired (unknown)' in the perms. It cannot even be tied down to and one set of similarities, as it works on one parcel on the same sim as another, with the exact same settings for the land, group, owner and system, but not in an adjoining parcel.

If your head hurts at this point, try dealing with people that can hardly speak english, or have no clue what I am talking about. LL have not responded to my reports.

Personally, I believe it is to do with the sim/asset databases not in sync. Unless anyone knows differently?

Did this occur before the havok updates? Also, if possible try an older version of the client. There were several updates to QuickTime recently that might have been baked into the viewer that could be a source of problems. The first step is to try to isolate whether its a server or client issue.

I hear you there, my bief is that it is client related. The broadcasting of the url is potntially being lost via the QT pluggin buffers.

I have tried other clients without result, so it also has something to do with server code (Havok4) apltly named. Combine that with the 'Aquired (unknown)' issue of the url note cards, it is not my end, nor anyone elses end.

As a matter of interest, had a customer last night unable to watch movies recently (after the last round of client updates, we went through various elements of settings, client, qt player preferences, cache etc etc.. we found an issue in his firewall, which I discovered some weeks ago, in the exceptions tab in the windows firewall (icon in control panel), a programme called 'Bonjour' which had allowed itself the privilege of bypassing the firewall, this is an exploit programme. On unchecking that, the movies began to play.
This hasn't cured the other issues related to parcel media players though.

I believe, looking at the various reporting stats, because the client has been extended to include rendering html on textures as well as movies, the client maybe confused with a pure http link to media, and not when its rstp. It sometimes switches between the two when the media first starts. Again, if SL is getting between simple url broadcasting and the client media linking process, this would explain some of the difficulties. This still does not answer the 'Aquired (unknown)' issue which is clearly database latency issues LL end.
