You Tube best practices

Hi Folks,

I'm working with Adobie Premiere Pro, Fraps, and AVI-To-MPEG Converter (from FlyDragonSoft.com), and I am uploading movies to You Tube.

So far, the results are mediocre at best. I used the Microsoft Video 1 codec at 1280 x 720 with 100% compression and then Avi-to-mpeg converter, and finally an upload to youtube. Input file is about 60 megs.

Here was the result:

The compression artifacts are pretty significant. I've perused the various offerings by other SL users, and think I can do better. For example, this jet demo by Huns Valen is pretty good. Notice the text in the top bar, it's almost readable.

I was hoping the community might have some suggestions on how we can attain these sorts of results on You Tube.

Specifically, looking for the Codec / Software to compress with.

Some things to ponder:

# Videos are limited to 10 minutes (unless you're a Director) and 100 MB.
# Videos saved with the following settings convert the best:

* MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
* 320x240 resolution
* 30 frames per second framerate

I've tried uploading at 1280/960 in hopes that might improve things, but it doesn't seem to help that much unfortunately.

Cheers,

Iron.

The Zudeo might be an alternative when want to upload in better quality.

I am using The Intel Indeo 5.1 codec, with about 90% compression.

It uploaded at 70 megabytes for 2 minutes 30 seconds of video. Clearly this is too much, but it seems to be the best that Adobe Premiere can do.

To follow up:

The best solution I've found was simply to record with fraps, convert to RGB (no compression with VirtualDub), import into Premiere, edit, and then export with No Compression.

I then use VirtualDUB to compress with a codec from www.divx.com and then upload to YouTube. I record in 640x480, however you could probably get better results in 320x240 if your particular app was compatible.

Cheers,

Iron.
