I have been experimenting with the new client, the new UDP and TCP pipelines makes for very smooth screen capture, which is awesome for machinima. Despite a lot of apparent lag, multiple crashes, time dialations going crazy, ping User showing 0, I was getting up into the 100's fps and the screen grabbing set at 35fps, it was the smoothest I've ever seens it.. even with 35,000+ users ingame. All we gotta figure out now is, how to keep the actors in game long enough LOL... movies of ppls crashing doesn't sell very well.

exactly the opposite for me. the first time i've been able to movie capture was just before this update. and now it's back to 2 seconds before crash city. so it's hit or miss,eh?

get more RAM. whatever you have now, its not enough. If you got enough RAM, then upgrade your video card. If you still have problems, add more RAM. Repeat until finished. =)

I used to be able to do kiiler captures with my ATI all-in-Wonder x800 huge resolution at 30 fps. but anymore SL just crashes on startup, with that system, so i just use my laptop. I might be ale to pipe video out and simple capture on the other computer instead of running SL and capturing on one.

The problem with capturing movies ingame is that you are creating a double overhead on the system. 30fps while playing, wont give you good results when capturing, when you consider that you are now capturing what you see on the screen (or in a selected region of the screen using say Fraps or HyperCam) to HD. The HD system is already handling the OS cache, SL cache, background programmes such as network, virus checkers, firewall programmes all swapping in and out dynamically, and now you are asking it to save huge streams of data (my rate is about 100-150mb per second) at the same time. I use 4 SATA II ports/channels to control a raid set for capturing movie data, onto 2tb of space. My setup gives me an average of 50-100+ fps. I think your (Zen) GC setup isn't ideal as the 'GO' series use system ram, stealing that from the OS etc. In any event system ram is not ideally suited for GC applications such as SL, especially as it will use more resource pipelines to transfer data to HD on top of everything else. If you are using a single HD on a IDE bus, then again, another bottleneck, especially if you share the IDE port with a slave unit (CD-Rom etc). I run the OS cache from a sole mounted IDE HD (10,000 rpm with 16mb cache), SL from a single ported SATA II HD, and the other 3 SATA II HD's are raided to capture movie data. Personally, using fraps (which only saves using codex) adds to the system resource hunger as it compresses on the fly. I found saving in AVI format in HyperCam, is better for me, when using 'select region' function.
