I've seen this question asked before, but not recently, and not in this forum section (that I could find).
Is there a way to use a Windows PC and a USB-type camera to stream live video into SL? I'm looking to eventually have a live music show that also contains streaming video as well as the audio.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

We are constantly on the look out for great talent and people who can make shows with us. Please IM me to discuss how you can be involved. ---------------- so check with her.

What has Starrs profile got to do with someone wanting to stream his webcam into sl? Unless he is either doing something like a World First, or being a perv, which I doubt Starr would be interested. Apart from getting the software and firewall setup, your only potential limitation is upstream bandwidth. Most ISP's quote a connection bandwidth, which is downstream (download) and not the upstream value. ASDL for instance rarely goes over 512kbps irrespective of the downstream. Armed with that information, the rest is basic math. The data bit stream value (kbps) which is based on the resolution (size and quality), times the amount of people that are going to view it at any one time, will give you the basic calculation of the upstream bandwidth you will need. This is considered a minimum, always add at least 20% to that value for latency. Not forgetting any other programmes that maybe using your connection at the same time (like SL for instance).

SLCN --World Firsts or Pervs?

From: AWM Mars Eh? What has Starrs profile got to do with someone wanting to stream his webcam into sl? Unless he is either doing something like a World First, or being a perv, which I doubt Starr would be interested. SLCN has been streaming "Meet an Author" from Cookie for about a year. The content is an interview with published authors like D Harlan Wilson and Terrance Dicks. These are not known for being pervs. But SLCN archives its content here: http://slcn.tv/ so anybody can go there and look for pervs. Some other shows that don't look particularly pervish: Metanomics, Music Academy, Cisco Tech Chat, Cleverf Zebra, Intel Tech Talk, Best Practices in Education, Texas Aussie Music Party. Why mention SLCN? Well SLCN has been streaming our content from Cookie for over a year and archiving it on the web. All at no cost to us. I would think any musical performer, like Jaycatt, would want to look into the possibility of getting SLCN coverage. Frogg and Jaycatt are among best known performers in SL so I would expect SLCN at least to give a listen to a proposal from them. TM

I stream live video by using a videocam fed to a VLC (Video Lan) server on a Windows box which sends to a Real Media Helix server on a Linux box. Works nicely!

Funny this thread was created just before our own Live streaming event. Now it is done, I can report on our own experiences. Using one system linked to a webcam or other source in RL, was then rebroadcasted to a 3rd party company ( http://www.streamingwizard.com/streaming/live_streaming.asp), that multicasted the stream using 800kbps quality for 50 viewers (although you can buy more). We linked the ingame screens and players to the broadcasted stream, which worked perfectly. The quality was awesome and very stable. We also setup a system to capture SL and rebroadcasted that through a professional video theatre projector onto a 12'x9' wall screen at the RL event. What intriqued most people was, the ability to stand in front of the RL camera, wave, given the 15 second delay time, rush to the big projector screen and see themselves on a similar scale screen, on a wall in SL. Moreso when our third system had avatars logged in for them to use, now they could also see themselves wave in RL, and watch their avatar wave back LOL. The live stream included live music and speeches at the conference.
