Hi folks,

Not sure exactly where this fits forum wise so hopefully someone here can help.

Been going through Torley's tutorial (http://torley.com/how-to-convert-youtube-videos-for-playing-in-second-life) on how to convert a youtube vid and then get it up and running on your land. Everything seemed to be going ok, I created one, put it on blip.tv and it runs fine from there. However when I create a prim put a texture on it that I select in the About Land->Media tab and then put in the url.... nothing. Or rather the prim face goes black and that's it. Nothing more.

Any idea what is going wrong here? I have NO idea there seems so few steps involved I can't see where the error is. Any help will be really greatly appreciated.

It's possible you dont have the latest version of quicktime, this usually fixes the problem

Thanks for the response. Frustratingly however despite installing the latest quicktime I've seen no change, still the black texture when I click the play button on the video controller. Grr. Really annoying, I'm trying to get this up and running for our educational island on the teen grid.

You also need to arrange movie streaming in your edit/preferences. That's edit from the the top bar. But maybe you know that?

Yes I've watched vids whilst on other sims so I have managed to rule out anything to do with my client setup.

You say you have watched movies on other sims.... but it may have something to do with:
A) You have insufficient bandwidth to watch that particular movie (really needs to be less than 100kbps data rate to run alongside the client).
B) The format/codex of the movie maybe incompatible with QuickTime, it maybe wmv (windows video format) in which case updating QT won't help, you have to install the correct codex for media player for SL to be able to render it. If it's a flash format over version 3, then it won't play at all. MPEG movie formats will play, but again you need to have the correct codex. Try asigning all the movie formats to QuickTime, and it should install the codex for you.

I'm getting the black screen everywhere ... but not updated Quicktime so I'll try that - amazingly, not even THOUGHT of that!
