Hello,
I shot some footage using FRAPS in world and put it together in Pinnacle Studio. I also made the same movie in windows movie maker however, both files are huge 44mb plus for about an 8 minute video.
My question is how do I convert the wmv, mpg or avi into mov or mpeg4 so that it will play in world while also keeping the filesize manageable and the quality?
Thanks! Leigh

I have a Mac and I've never used Pinnacle but here's some info: 44MB for an 8 minute movie is fine. It's not the overall file size that you should be concerned with, it's the data rate. The slowest broadband connections should be able to download at least 750kbps. You're video should be just under that so most everyone should be able to start watching it with only a little bit of buffering. As for playing it in SL, it has to be QuickTime or Mpeg4 (though a QuickTime movie can be mpeg4 among other things). If you have QuickTime installed on your system, many editing programs (not Windows Movie Maker) can export directly to QuickTime. If yours can't, QuickTime Pro might be useful. You can export an .AVI file, open that up with QuickTime Pro and export it as a QuickTime movie. Here's a tutorial about how to do that using Avid Free DV. Some people don't have good luck with Avid Free DV but this also works with QuickTime Pro. Also if you use QuickTime pro you can also choose AAC audio which will make your video compatible with the iPod as a bonus. http://freevlog.org/index.php/2005/10/25/create-a-quicktime-mov-from-windows-movie-maker/

I have used both Final Cut on a Mac as well as Vegas and Pinnacle on a PC... If you are using standard NTSC 720x480 and are Mpeg2 Compressed in a .mov, 44Meg is good for 8 min of video. There are tons of 20 - 30 dollar video converters out there, just do a Google Search with a string like "wmf mov mpeg4 converter". One of the ones I found was at http://www.yasasoft.com/mp4videoconverter/Also I am unfamilliar with the iPod Movies (I still have an iPod Mini ), but I hear that it uses Mpeg4, and there are alot of converters out there also. You would think iTunes7 would have that ability with all the whoop-lah (if someone knows if it does, please share the info). http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Other-VIDEO-Tools/iPod-Movie-Maker.shtmlYou could lower your resolution, but it tends to suck big wienies. I say let us see what you made, and we will forgive the 44meg download.
