Hello, I was not sure where to post this, but I have chosen for the Movies section of the forums.
I have seen in several videos, that the FlyCam allows us to record stuff alot better than the Alt-Camera. And since I was going to make a movie, I figured what Id need to use this camera. I found out, that the flycam camera works with joysticks/gamepads. And so I connected my PS2 Dualshock Controller to my computer.
But I am having some problems with it, and the Wiki about the flycam doesnt really help me. The point is, when I push my left analog stick forward for example, my character walks forward for about two steps, and when I release the analog stick, it walks back to the place I started walking! This is really frustrating, since I just want my guy to KEEP walking forward if I hold the analog stick pushed forward.
And now I have no idea how to make this right, I have tried calibrating the controller with configuration wizard in XP. But the gamepad seems to work great with other games, so something in SL messes is up. I might have not put my settings in SL right? But I have no idea what to put em on then.
Does anyone use a PS2 controller aswell? Or another gamepad with analog sticks like Xbox controller? And how did you fix this issue?
Thanks.

Hey Stanneman, I feel your pain, I had the exact same problem when trying to use my xbox controller. The solution is easy, just untick the "3D Cursor" Here are the settings I use as a starting pint for the Xbox controller if that's any help. I tweak some of these sensitivities if I want a really slow dolly: http://s128.photobucket.com/albums/p195/russellboyd90/?action=view¤t=xboxcontrollers2.jpg

Wow great, that did the trick! I have one question though, when I move the analog stick forward, my guy walks forward, and when I push it to the left, my char walks to the left, but it doesnt anything if I push the analog stick anywhere in between, do you have the same Issue, and if so, does it matter when filming with FlyCam?

Its the nature of how the avatar is controlled with movement, it accepts one comand at a time, so pressing 2 cursor keys at the sametime, results in the first one being accepted and acted upon. It is not the same with your view, which accepts multiple comands allowing true 3d movement. Flycams most useful attribute comes from its name 'Cam'.

Well, the cam moves in many different axes (forward-back, up-down, rotate, pan, etc), where as the av only moves in 2 (forward-back, rotate) so a lot of the cam controls have no effect on the av.
But you're meant to "disengage" the controller from the character then fly the cam around all by itself. On the Xbox controlelr, the A key does this. Not sure about the PS2.
It's a little weird at first as you can move the camera anywhere you want, even look back at the av, then you can move the av around with the arrow keys.
However, it's a critical skill to master, as this is really how to make a machinima look more like a real movie. Just how many real films do you see where the camera floats about behind the actors head and turns every way he does!?

I have another question, So I got my PS2 controller working with the flycam, but the controls are not right. When I push or pull the left stick forward or back, it zooms, and this is great, when I press it left or right, it strafes. But I also want to turn, and none of the 2 sticks do that, its just zoom and strafewith the Left stick, and up and down with the Right stick. How can I change this?
PS: I cant pitch either. I cant pitch or turn.

The interface is really confusing, it took me a while to figure it out too. Look at my settings again: http://s128.photobucket.com/albums/p195/russellboyd90/?action=view¤t=xboxcontrollers2.jpgThe Xbox controller only has 5 Axes, numbered 0,1,2,3,4 I chose to map these to X,Y,Z,Pitch,Yaw See the numbers in the mapping selection. That means I had to forget Roll and Zoom. To disable these, you put -1 in the map I also had a problem with pitch being inverted, so I put -1 in the scale Persevere, Stanneman. It's hard to help by text, so if you see me inworld just IM me. Mind you, I won't be in very much, what with the Easter holidays and what not, sorry.
