Fraps to Google Video or YouTube

Google Video and YouTube both didn't seem to like the fraps file I made with the Fraps free version.

What is the easiest possible way to convert the fraps files into a codec that makes small files that are compatible with those and other sites?

QuickTime Pro is easiest, IMHO.

You can always hunt about for free converters though. If you're on Winders, then you can use Windows Movie Maker to make them into a WMV and even add titles and some basic effects.

QuickTime Pro would mean spending money, a decided point against it.

Do the WMV files work on Google Video and or YouTube?

There are a number of different codecs, different versions of avi files and such. What would be one that is compatible and makes sufficiently small files?

Sigh - I really want something that would be as easy as right clicking the fraps file and selecting convert to suchandsuch.

I'm not wedded to Fraps, but one hears that it is the best.

I'm not trying to make a great video, to start out with I just want to be able to document the gray loading texture in video form.

It was neat getting fraps to do anything at all, certainly fun enough to download and install the version.

Google will take WMV - I don't know about YouTube. PutFile takes WMV.

All of the click-n-convert programs I'm aware of are commercial, I'm afraid.

I get the feeling Windows Movie maker's your best bet here, though that limits you to either WMV (and it will help you choose a good compression ratio for uploading) or huge DV AVI files.

Alrighty, and thanks. I have Windows Movie Maker, the way it looks gave me the impression it was pretty proprietary. I'll try it again.

Heh - as a result, I suppose, of some codec loading I'd done, the long not working File menu option for making a movie started to work - I got to see for the first time what people meant when they said it slowed things down.

That is what motivated me to try Fraps.

Fraps is like thirty bucks to get the paid, unlimited time version, I think, for those who might be looking into this stuff.

QuickTime Pro, though not free, is not a big budget item, is it - and it would do a bunch of cool things too - like....?

Some of the indy filmmaker sites are talking about conversions now. Here's some links I've not checked out yet that might be of interest:

Hey folks, my day job-- i'm the co-founder of Audioblog.com now Hipcast- we transcode virtually every video format and you can email to us, and then post it to a video podcast feed (video ipod/itunes ready) or post to your blog in flash.

Send me the file and I'll be happy to test it out. Spin@spinmartin.com or eric@ericrice.com

I got YouTube to accept a file converted with Windows Movie Maker.

Google Video gives me authentication errors on everything I have tried.
