I was hoping someone might have a recommendation ... I used to use mediamax, but of course they started being faulty ages ago, and since then I haven't really done anything machinima-ish. I have accounts with vimeo and blip.tv, but I cant seem to get them to play on media in SL. Perhaps I have just forgotten how this works? Anyway, any suggestions welcome. Feel free to be VERY specific in your instructions - I promise I won't feel patronized!

Hosting for video to play in SL

SL requires Quicktime compatible format. I have posted .mov on Blip.tv and played that successfully in SL. There is a wokraround route that will permit playing from YouTube into SL. I have seen that working on Hobo Island and will ask some of my Hobo friends to give me detailed instructions that I can pass along here.

Thanks for the reply, Thinkerer. Unfortunately, youtube won't work for this purpose - it isn't happy with music I use in part of it (this is extremely non-commercial). If anyone is interested though, you can, at least for now, just plug the youtube you want to play in SL into this site and it just magically works: http://youtubemp4.com/
I must be doing something really stupid with blip ... it IS uploaded as a .mov, but when I enter the link in "about land," the dropdown switches automatically from movie to web content, and the blip.tv page is what you see if you press media. I think blip.tv has started automatically converting stuff to .flv when you upload ... maybe somehow it is choosing that as the default for playing now? |

Exploring Blip

Thanks for the detail on YouTube- I will include that on my website and the info I pass around.
Here is what I think worked for me a while back: Blip does convert to .flv, but also offers a download in the format you upoloaded in. Go to the page and click on Files and Links button. Find the .mov url and use that. Says for download, but the stream worked when I tried it. (I did not use it much -- maybe only works sometimes). TM |

hey ... just thought it might amuse some of you to see the finished product. the filming isn't great, because part of it is straight up wedding video, and I didn't know what was going to happen! in the second half, a lot of the footage is from a year or two ago, when the couple getting married got together, and I had no idea what I was doing (even less than now)
http://blip.tv/file/1810590 first half serious, second is the kind of thing that SL is great for, but also screws up your wedding with lol |
