I was curious if there was any news on the winners of the 2006 trailer contest? i know they showed the movies at the convention can anyone give some incite?

Trailer Grand Prize Winner

I find that video, although nicely made far to combat themed, giving future signups the wrong idea althogether.

It's an Action/Adventure trailer, not Building

"Second Life: Get One" was entered in the action/adventure category. It happened to win best of show, so it's understandable that people want to see everything in it. But please note that there were 8 different categories and contest guidelines said to focus on just one. So that's what we did -- highlight action and adventure, both sport-type and combat adventure and personal pursuits. We didn't include building because there was a separate category for films on Building. I don't know who won that category, or even if there were any entries in the other seven categories. If there were, I would assume Linden will be using those as well as "Get One" in its promotional campaigns.

What's sad about the whole thing was after i submitted my trailer entry i didn't get any e-mail saying they received it so i have no idea if it was even in the contest, i tried several times to contact someone by e-mail to ask this question and for some help on a few things, i am a bit pissed off about it, i will never do this shit again. / rant off _____________________

This is just the way to invite future 'griefers' into the game...those who just want to play for the violence! Players now are complaining about others just coming in and invading their land with high powered guns, etc....all this stuff causes major lag. I really think we need to lure the more mature player in and violence just is not the way! There is much more to SL than what this video portrays, lots more. If people want violence and destruction there are other games they can play... Leave SL for the more 'creative' players!!!! P.S. I do infact believe it was a very good movie, just not what SL needs for their campaign! |

Do you realize the video by Silver and Goldie "Get One" has broken two rules? One is must be less than 2 minutes, they had 3 seconds more. And the Second one is no copyright contents. In their video, has Gundam, Stargate, Rocketman (classic), and Canti from FLCL?
I've made sure I don't use any stupid copyright junk into my video... and yet they won? I don't think so. and what happens to the category winners? Did they just change their mind about giving out 50k to each category winners and 100k to overall? I want to know all the winners. |

Take another look at Second Life: Get One

As part of the team that created Second Life: Get One, I would again like to emphasize that this trailer was entered in the action/adventure category. Previous comments characterizing this movie as focusing on violence and promoting griefers have me mystified. If you carefully watch the movie, which is 1:58 seconds in actual length, there are fewer than 19 seconds that display swordplay or gunplay. That is around 15%. The other 85% displays flying, sailing, motor scooter and motorcyle riding, scuba dving, surfing, violin playing, meditation and dancing. Some of the friendliest and most cooperative residents we met while doing this project were active in combat zones, which is a highly popular activity and deserves 15% of an action/adventure trailer's focus. I can understand other entrants being disgruntled about the Trailer Contest communication, but please don't take out your frustration on fellow machinima producers.

I liked all of the video's posted thus far. I think what gives Silver and Goldie Goodman video a bit of an edge is the voice over dialogue. It's nice to see action and adventure and hear music but when you're advertising a product I believe dialogue plays an important part. Yes I know there are many 'commercials' out there without voice over but they are done very well --- either by facial expression, gestures or detailing of objects which of course enchances the product.
Kudos to all of you that worked hard in creating a video! It would be nice to see all of the videos that were submitted. EispoO |
