Hi, I was wondering if there are any SL movie producers out there that would be willing to allow me to stream their shows back into SL, it would also involve an external website. I know I could just nick anyones show that is up on one of the many movies sites and stream it, but I'm not prepared to breach anyones copyright. So if you've made some Machinima in SL and are willing to let me stream it please drop me an IM in world. (If it's just a yes thats fine, then please include a url to the movie so I can pick it up, if possible) If it's not currently in quicktime format, thats no problem, we can fix that. Ta, G.

are you going to provide bandwidth? For example, I prefer to make higher quality versions of the handful of videos I've produced from my own server. If you start serving that up from my server, then my bandwidth gets sucked up.

When you speak of 'streaming' there is only one 'true' method of streaming thats with RSTP, which is the most expensive with regard to maintaining a constant and quality bandwidth every time anyone watches the movie.
'Progressive download' and 'download and watch' are alternatives and rely on producing the movie file into the viewers cache and can be watched many times without the further need for bandwidth, assuming they do not clear their cache. The only draw back, is the content is then in the hands of others, RSTP prevents this as it is pure bandwidth driven.
Our company 'streams' movies that we make into SL and onto our website, from our servers. I carried out tests in the early weeks and a small (10mb) movie, streamed into SL via RSTP used up over 1tb bandwidth. Of course our business requires the movie(s) to be seen by as many users as possible (Advertising). The math is quite simple to gauge potential bandwidth required (size of file x amount of times viewed) assuming you know just how many viewers to expect. Another part of the equation is, just how many viewers can actually watch the movie at the same time. Most streaming servers have a limitation, creating a 3d equation.
