You need a program to do some editing. You gotta compress your video down. I recommend getting Quicktime Pro and exporting as an h.264 mp4.

If you're on Windows, you need a program called FRAPS for video capture. A Mac, ishowu or snapzpro.

Look at the type of editing package you want to use. Some are free/cheap like Sony Vegas. Some are more expensive but professional like FinalCut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.

As for hosting, there's always Youtube, but I recommend Blip.tv. They have a nice interface, will transcode your video to Flash, and still provide you a download link for your original file that you can link to in SL.
