Hey guys :)

I have Kirsten's shadow viewer but it's really buggy and creates black blotches. I generally try not to use it.

Do you guys have any suggestions, as a PC user, where I can get the Shadow draft viewer?

Thanks!

Hmm I tried the latest release of the Boy Lane shadow client.. seems it likes ATI better than nVidia, normally I get around 35-50+ fps in SL with the goodies turned up, but only 1.5fps using this shadowclient.

I get 15+ fps with the Kirsten's version, but prefer to see my feet :)

Being able to open up bandwidths to over 8mbps in the BoyLane client is great, but you are still relying on LL delivering the information from their servers, which is probably delivering at around 0-1mbps at best.

Using my NVidia 8800GT OC, I get around 15-20 FPS in Boy Lane's Shadow Client. I have no ATI card to compare, though. Also, don't attempt AntiAliasing with Shadows turned on, last I knew, at least with NVidia... Totally dies XD

Maybe its related to Vista or the AMD CPU I use, because my nVidia GC setup is very powerful (and upto date), so can't understand the 1.5fps treacle, even with everything turnned down.

Hmm...well, for comparison, my system runs at around 15-20 fps (In a good area, closer to 10 in prim crowded), and my specs are:

NVidia 8800 GT OC
3 Gigs DDR2 RAM
Intel Q6600 Quad Core, OC'd to 2.6/core
Windows XP SP3
Gigabyte P35-DS3R Mobo
All drivers up-to-date

Be ensured Nvidia works better than ATI, that's because of ATI's broken OpenGL implementation. However it works only for "newer cards", that is Nvidia 8xxx and ATI 4xxx. What is reportedly not working are Nvidia cards with an S at the end like GS or GTS. I'm still waiting for someone who got one of these running.

The Shadow Viewer as well as Cool Viewer has an OpenGL fix that gives some 20%+ higher FPS (measured, not rumoured ;)) than a standard viewer, and even more if you use ATI cards. Still it is very very buggy, be happy if it works for you, make some nice photos, don't use it for serious stuff as it will crash, and don't complain if it doesn't work for you :)

@AWM

Did you copy the not redistributable files mentioned in the readme into your ShadowViewer folder? That is all of them. If you miss a dll for the voice client it will slow down your system as you mentioned.

Hi,
Yes I followed the instructions, copying over the files listed etc...

llkdu.dll Kakadu JPEG2000 library
SLVoice.exe SL Voice components
alut.dll
vivoxsdk.dll
ortp.dll

I use a SLi config with a pair of nVidia 8800GTX with 1gb DDRIII ram on each card.. drivers upto date.. My CPU is a Dual core AMD on one machine and a AMD Quad Core on another. Both use 88ooGTX GC's.
Normally I get between 25-50+++ fps when I'm filming in a busy sim.

OK, what does your help/about output say about your hardware?

Yeah, and as always violating GPL by not providing sources and violating 3rd party license terms by distributing the KDU and Voice components that are non-redistributable. I simply don't get this part *scratches her head* :(

And no, that's not some personal grief I have with KLee, this is simply wrong and legally not ok. Repeatedly.
