Hey guys..
I use fraps so I can't change the resolution in the recorder itself. Therefore, in Second Life graphic preferences I change the resolution to what I need (720 by 480). However, when I try that, overall the performance of Second Life is wretched. It crashes, it's slower, did I mention it crashes?
I have Fraps, can't afford to buy a new recorder right now (VERY happy with Fraps), and want to record in 720 by 480. So is changing the Second Life resolution the best way? Then why does it crash so often?
Thanks!

Changing window size

I tested - I can change window size (resolution) to anything (720 by 480). with Fraps running, so the problem is not in Fraps. To solve your problem, I suggest: 1. Set the window size before starting Fraps (you can start Fraps with SL client already running) 2. Or logoff with the window size as you want it. That setting should be restored when you next log on. Why not just film on your best performance resolution and crop the size in editing?

I'm just going to convince them to let me shoot HD and they can crop it in post. It's nicer to shoot hd and downgrade.. it looks super good that way! this client needs to get with he times! Thanks again,, much appreciated.

Have you tried adjusting the SL Client UI scale, rather than the screen resolution?

tried it. That's the thing that kept crashing on me. Isn't that the only way to do it with fraps? Thanks.

Adjusting screen resolution- crash
05-11-2009 04:42
From: Ariella Languish tried it. That's the thing that kept crashing on me. Isn't that the only way to do it with fraps? Thanks. Adjusting window size is the only way I know how to change resolution. Edit> preferences> graphics> Window size [drop down bar] Fraps is not involved unless you are saying that this procedure fails only when Fraps is running. You can set screen size before you log on, and with Fraps running or not. Are you saying that when you set screen size before logging on and with Fraps not running, the client immediately crashes? If so that is clearly a client probem -- you should check the Jira about it. BTW, there is a new RC you might want to try.

you could of course use HyperCam.. and use the region set to 'draw' the capture area onto the screen... Thats why I use it.. its the one thing that Fraps doesn't have. Stupid SL forums wouldn't let me upload a small screen shot of what I was saying, so you can look at it here instead http://www.wba-advertising.com/images/hypercam1.gif

Although I have not encountered this problem, one suggestion Ariella might be to try a different viewer...I have found the Nicholaz Eye Candy viewer works in a very stable manner for film work and as a supplement to the LL viewer. http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/
