I would like to film some side on things like me riding my horse, boating etc, from the side on. Is there a way to lock the camera, to track yourself from a certain angle ? Also - if I uploaded videos onto Youtube - the compression makes the images fuzzy. I have seen some crystal clear videos on there - how do they do that ? I have Frapps and Hypercam, and so far - as I am only just starting in the whole machinima thing - have been using the basic windows movie editing programme - is there anything that I should be using instead, and if so - is it simple to use for a non-technical person? Thanks in advance.

You can use scripts to change the camera position. This will let you vary the camera position in a variety of ways.
If you just want to put the camera to the side and have it stay there for an entire SL session, you can also use the debug setting CameraOffsetDefault. Set the X to 0 and the Y to 3, restart SL, and your camera will be even with you front and back ways and 3 meters to your left. Reset CameraOffsetDefault and restart SL and the camera will be back to normal.
You can use other values as needed. You can set X to a positive number and have the camera in front of you looking at yourself from the front.
You might find it hard to steer with the camera set like this.
Possibly one could use this debug setting in conjuction with a scripted camera control to good advantage.

You can make HD video using WMM - I suggest looking at the YouTube help and user forums.

Try hosting on Blip, they offer better quality from the raw media. If you must use YouTube, then within the constraints of time and file size, make the best quality you can. The flv codec can only crunch it so much.
