Hey guys..

I was wondering if anyone would like to give some advice or tips on the best way to advertise machinima services in SL that seems to have the most impact?

I've tried everything from approaching companies directly (literally- avatar to avatar), to buying land and creating a soundstage/office, to doing a couple real life panels on SL. Some of them were successful, some moderate.

Any advice on how I can get the work flowing that is more effective than the above?

Being active on the SL forums is quite effective... joining business networking groups another.. maybe contact Wilder PR Inc (Annette Wilder) may help you, blogging your work.. etc etc..

I don't sell my video services, but find that getting a visible portfolio on YouTube generates inquiries. I have recently set up a Business Channel on my website:
http://www.thinkerer.org/VirVilBusiness/VirtVillBusinessChanMisc.htm

"The videos on this channel are about using virtual reality as a tool for real businesses"

If anyone has publicly available videos that demonstrate business services (beyond inworld business) I would consider them for inclusion. I also have several other channels that display video productions from SL. These channels aggregate and embed videos posted on YouTube or Blip.tv. I am interested in including videos that show the potential for creative work in SL.

I am personally in lots of business circles and groups, a good starting point is VIO.

Testimonials, testimonials, testimonials.... oh and did I mention Testimonials???

Put those up on your website. We put all ours up there, good or bad (fortunately, not had any bad ones, yet). Word of mouth is perhaps the most powerful medium in a VR community like SL.

Xander Newman runs VIO in SL.. its a networking group, that has seminars which you can attend, and even give yourself to groups of business's. It is one of many, but attracts some good quality business contacts and leads.

Xander in RL, runs a PR company, that networks with a lot of RL companies.

Also checkout Orange, they have a strong presence, and while you are at it, Joysco.

I will definitely try those- thank you so much!

Also, another great way to network is facebook. There are some great groups on Facebook for Machinima and Machinima in Second Life- just search in groups.
