No idea why I can't film in SL

Either the in-world movie options or Fraps or any other program... I just can't figure out why I can't make a movie in SL. The recording saves as .avi, but the results are either extremely low framerate (0.5 frames per second or less) or plain black, with a one second duration of the 'movie', although I recorded much longer.

I have tried every option in the SL client, from 'Complete frames (non compressed)' until 'Microsoft RLE' etcetera. But not one decent result.

Are my settings off or am I doing something else completely wrong? Really, I have no idea. Please help me with this.

My pc specs:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (1804 MHz)
Memory: 2046 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista (Build 6000)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 8600 GT/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL Version: 2.1.2
LLMozLib Version: [LLMediaImplLLMozLib] - 2.01.16301 (Mozilla GRE version 1.8.1.13_0000000000)

What are you trying to view the result with? I would recommend using
VLC (http://videolan.org) and see if the problem is with your viewing software.

This might be a codec problem. VLC is the way to test for that because it
includes it's own versions of most codecs and therefore can play just about
anything that exists in video or audio format. It's open source and free btw.

Fraps is what I use. Have you tested setting the resolution to Half before recording?
That can help. Have you tried filming without audio recording? Also, you should
wait a some time after you stop recording to let Fraps finish writing out its
buffer. Just watch your HD light.

The output from Fraps is a proprietary codec and therefore lightly compressed
and not really suitable for viewing. The common work flow is:

1. Capture clips with Fraps.
2. Bring the resulting avi clips into an editing program, like Premiere or Vegas et al.
3. Edit
4. Export with compression (DivX, Flash, etc).

Let us know how it goes...

Check that you have not set defaults to the frame rate of capture you are experiencing. Fraps and my favourite HyperCam, both allow you to set the capture framerate.

Your system specs suggest you have enough power to do decent captures. Have you checked free space on the HD? Is it defragmented? As this helps capture storage flow. Are you running background programmes? Also turn off Indexing for the HD you are saving to (assuming you have a seperate HD), as this adds another service running while you capture.

Check your system for virus's/maleware/exploits. Open up Windows Firewall and in the exceptions tab, check to see what programmes have access through your firewall. Uncheck everything, except SecondLife.exe and SLVoice, unless you are on a company intranet system

Ingame, press Ctrl+Shift+1 and look at the fps you are acheiving (do the same again to remove that window).

Oh?... I wouldn't know, I use HyperCam, that works fine for me on Vista.
