For the last couple of weeks, every time I invoke the "Start/Stop Movie to Disk" (CMD-Shift-A) I get the normal dialog box, but after clicking "OK" the SL program crashes, every time. I formerly used this option quite often, and I don't think I have changed any settings. (Currently use Compression: Video, Motion: Key frame every 24 frames, and Quality: High. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks!

It is not sure, whether the "Movie to Disk" feature will stay in the client.
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2184 Torley Linden - 22/Aug/07 10:17 AM "Start/Stop Movie to Disk" is broken in a number of ways (crashes some people's viewers, codec inconsistency, etc.) -- in lieu of 3rd-party tools (including free ones) doing a better job, we may remove it in the future. I am using Taksi (taksi.sourceforge.net), but it forces the SL client to crash sometimes (too often). |

Fraps is a very good video capture program. Allows you to set frame rate..whether to record audio or not..shows FPS onscreen.Saves video to a AVI file that you can convert to the format of your choice with your choice of other coverter programs to compress it.
I've been using it to record in SL for a year now ,and I'm impressed and happy with it. Easy to use also. |

For the mac its called Icapture i belive.. but ya fraps even has a free version (it does keep the Fraps.com logo on the top and only does it in 30 sec blips.. but for SL that is more than enough time to do it)
as far as ediiting softwear.. I know that Vegas Pro has a free trial program and for like 100 bucks you can buy Photoshop elements pack which has PE and Photoshop Primeir for editing your stuff |

Fraps now saves in AVI format?.... Last time I checked it out (about 3 months ago) it didn't.. hence why I went for HyperCam which does, and everything else Fraps does. I also prefer the option in HyperCam where once I have chsen the screen region I want to capture, I can grab it and move it about the screen, rather than have to select a new region eachtime.
I used several movie editing programmes, and despite its price.. I settled with Sony Vegas Pro. Combined with other 'finishing' programmes I use, they give excellent results. _____________________

I have used Fraps since April of last year. It has always saved as AVI. I have bought and tried several low-cost editing programs. So far I am sticking with the free Windows Movie Maker. The one that comes with Vista improves the ease of editing over the XP version. |
