Hi guys,

I need some one to point me in the right direction to how to video and broadcast live VIA tv in second life as well as make good quality video in second life.

I have been searching for screen capture software but can't seem to find a good program. Fraps frame rate is horrible.

Thanks
JP

Google on SLCN -- they have been broadcasting live video in SL for well ovr a year.

As to frame rate -- Fraps will give you an acceptable frame rate if SL is giving you good fram rate. You may need better bandwidth, better graphics card and/or faster computer. I use Fraps all the time and so do lots of other people.

Currently to broadcast "live" into SL you need a Quicktime Streaming Server, and a live broadcasting software like Wirecast (google it) very expensive. We at Metaverse TV have these capabilities if you need an event streamed, drop us a line.

If you use a Mac, you can get a programme free called Broadcaster from Apple.... thats the easy part to broadcast what you see on your screen... the expensive part is multicasting that stream to all your viewers.
Most broadcasting companies charge by the viewer, based on the data stream bandwidth and the length of time you want to maintain the stream.

A simple rule of thumb... say the data stream is 500kbps.. and you have 50 viewers, thats around (taking binary rounding) 25mbps of bandwidth per second.. make that last for 10 minutes.. its 25mbpsx60x10=around 1.5gb of bandwidth, thats more than most webhosts allowance for a month. That doesn't take into account the hardware and man hours to set it up.

We recently had a two way live feeds from SL to RL and RL to SL, 100 viewers @ 800kbps data rate for a 4 hour duration, we didnt get any change out of $1,200 (USD). Ity can be acheived on smaller scales but unless you have your own RTSP server with good bandwidth.. expect to pay one off service charges.

Regarding Screen Capture programmes.. both Fraps and my personal Favourite HyperCam, both have the abilitiy to allow you to adjust the capture frame rate, keyframes and whether to use a codex for capture. What you maybe experiencing, is low frame rate capture from your system, and or the codec chosen is a lossy version, in other words, it reduces quality of the captured data stream. By the sounds of it, not using a codec while you capture, will not help you improve your framerate.
