When I first downloaded Fraps last year, I had little trouble achieving the recommended 25 to 30 frames per second. These days, I have trouble getting 10 fps anywhere unless I'm 1200 meters in the air.

Is this just me, or has something in sl changed? My system should be handling this easily. I defrag almost daily, run AdAware at least once a week, and run AVG Anti Virus.

Something has changed, but I don't know if it's universal, or a personal issue with this pc...

So how's your fps?

tyty, clever people!

What are your computer specs, and whats the difference in frame rate from when you are recording and when you are not recording (could be hard drive performance) I know on my PC when I record on my external HD I lose a bunch of FPS

Dell Inspiron 530, Intel (R) Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 2.33 GHz, 3GB RAM, Vista 32 bit, 500GB HD, with a 600GB external HD.

Running Fraps doesn't appear to significantly change fps.

Does it really? One of my plans was to move all that stuff to the external HD so I could reformatt.

/me bangs head against screen.

Check your driver

I suggest: check yout driver. A driver released by Nvidia last Oct. boosted my FPS a lot. Then a month or so ago Micorsoft put updates on my machine that reverted my to an older driver. I noticed a big drop in FPS, undid the Microsoft improvement, and got back to good FPS most of the time. I see Nvidia has a new driver dated Apr 2 of this year, so that may be what you want to get:

What video card do you have? Thinkerer is probably spot on about your driver, SL's engine has changed enough in the last year what with sculpties and windlight to require you keep it updated.

Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT.

I just downloaded and installed the April 2nd driver update mentioned before and my fps dropped from 8 to 2... o.0

Roll back alone would not fix it; I had to do a System Restore. This sort of thing has happened to me before. That's why I tend to leave the old driver in place. At least it ran sl. sorta. mostly.

You might want to uninstall the old driver before putting a new one in. Also clear your cache, loads of junk in there can mess with your frame rate.

Although I don't use Fraps myself... I heard there are issues with some of the recent updates. One person lost sound recording until she rolled back to an earlier version. Worth checking.
