I haven’t been involved in SL for long but I’m interested in trying Machinima. Currently using a laptop but want to get a new desktop. When I looked at the recommended SL system requirements, they list a whole range of graphics cards. If I’m planning to do Machinima, would this narrow down the bewildering choice of cards and if so what would you recommend? What about processor speed and memory for the computer itself? Overall, what’s the ideal system for general use on SL and producing Machinima?

Thanks!

Bond.

I just built a new machine in december generally for this purpose. I spent around $1500 total. Get a good processor. I got an Intel quad-core. Good amount of ram, 2-4gb. For graphics cards, get at least an nvidia8800gt. The 96xx line is out now for around the same pricepoint and are more powerful. Do your research for the motherboard, there's a lot out there. Highest front-side bus is best. Get the biggest hard drive you can, 7600rpm no less.

Don't forget an important aspect... fast HD's.. No point being able to film it, if you cannot store it quick enough.

I use SATA II HD's array, having several to suck the data. Each with their own controller seperate from the OS and SL and their caches.
