Hey Everyone!!

I just wanted to share some machinima the great, talented team of Popcha made:

http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/iphone/heroes/?S_TACT=105AGX01&S_CMP=LP#_home

Props to Adonis Bussey, Suzy Yue, Mewsic Bing, and all our great PAs, actors, and actresses!

I was the responsible machinimatographer and editor for Episodes 1-3, Mewsic was the awesome and talented machinimatographer and editor for Episode 4.

A team of pure fire!

Just to see the scale of how big R-Heroes is in the IBM world:

So grab some popcorn and check it out ;)

Soon to be posted- more work from the folks at Popcha!

wow!

I'm amazed at the amount of work and details..OMG I hate even thinking how much work you put in it! LOL

The only thing I'm not too crazy about are the graphics used in the movies...They look amateurish compared to the very high level of shooting and editing and I think they bring the whole quality down...I see room for improvement in the graphics dept...

Please post more when new ones available :)

Good stuff.

Good to see IBM continues to strongly support Second Life.

Thanks for showing your work here, Ariella.

I liked it, they get better with each episode. I found it like a comic book almost. It was intentional I assume. But you use the limits of SL to your advantage, which is hard, I tried to make a few movies. It's no fun trying to get smooth shots. And you kept it very professional in the editing. No crazed intros that are longer than the movie or credits for no real reason. I liked them.

Those are excellent :)

I can see, like all those that create machinima to this degree, using actors, storyboards, the levels of animations that are bespoke to those movies. Sets, clothing etc... Its all an excellent blend that shines through very well and professional.

The reason from the drop in colour depth is possibly two fold. The capture codex, and the delivery codec. Over use of each, will reduce colour depth and washout large areas of singular groups of colour. You can see it in a few areas of scenes. Most noticable is the square pixels of the NTSC format. I always try and use rounded pixel shapes, you can still use the same format output, by adjusting the format resolution size.

MP4 is okay, but H.264 is hardwired into most of the nVidia GC range since the 7600 series, it decodes it better on the fly. However, whilst great for the internet, MOV format is still king for streaming into SL, if you now how to prepare it.

The SL Client is not like a webpage, which doesnt suffer having to render distortions in a 3D environment. The additional loadings on the SL Client graphic pipelines, when trying to render movie streams on the fly, do not work in harmony, when the GC is loaded with rendering streams, decoding them with such aggressive codec, whilst moving about and having to render the environment as well.

Sorry to bore everyone with my prattling.. back to the OP, excellent work :D

hey AWM! I totally agree- I was so disappointed in how they exported to the web format. I have the same movies up on my server and they look 10 times better!
