Looking to Make SL SciFi Movie

My name is Ender. I'm interested in getting together with people to find out how we can make a two hour science fiction movie within SL. The script is almost done, the world needs a little development. It's actually the two hour premiere of a TV series, but I want to see how the movie does first.

It's called MACHINA: REVOLUTION - and is a cross between Star Trek, the Matrix, Transformers, Robotech, Starwars, and Battlestar Galactica and XFiles. It's intense, it's full of twists and turns, and it's exciting.

My original intention was to do this as flash animation, but it would be so much more amazing to be able to build sets and "film" this production in SL. I would love to have collaborators and all sorts of people involved. Premiere it on websites and in an SL theater.

This is all something I want to start and develop for a production company called Neon Apocalypse Entertainment. That produces most of its content online with talented, interested individuals. I admit I have hardly the in-world capitol to start this, but if someone would like to get together and simply discuss, we can certainly talk. I'd be happy to.

Thanks!

Ender

Listen,
I'm an anoymous in Second Life who enjoys helping others so if you need help with acting or anything i'd be willing to join in. Also, I have several friends who are amazing at Particle effects and building and I'm a vetran to Adobe Photoshop so i can help create Sets.
Some friends and I would be willing to lend some land, and maybe some cash so give my offer a chance ok?

Hello Ender.

Do you have any experience in making videos? A 2 hour machinima video is very ambitious.

If you are new to all this, I would suggest breaking up the script into smaller chunks and making this a series of short videos.

Well 2 things...

1) I'm too ambitious for my own good ;)

2) I can break them up into short videos that I eventually turn into a movie, rather than a series (the idea is that a series would be to follow this if it did well).

If it takes as long to make this two hour movie as it would to make a "serialized" version of the movie anyway, then I would rather make the movie, not release parts of it as a serialized product, and instead, put it all together into one film. Yes it's ambitious, but I'm not good at setting the bar low based on current accepted standards and trends. If we all did that we'd never advance anywhere. We'd all just do the same stuff over and over again.

The idea is to find out how to break new ground. Lucas wanted to make a space opera that utilized special effects never before dreamed of, and he did it. And it was a standard for years to come. I don't know how I'll do it, and I certainly welcome advice and critiques, but I'm going to do it one way or another.

Thanks :)

Hey all, sorry been so silent. It's going very slow, but let me post here what I just posted in another thread. Basically the issue that I'm having is what format or medium to take this to. I think I'd still like to organize it through SL, even if it doesn't end up as Machinima. Perhaps this included post can address where I'm going with the problem.

_____________________________________________________________________________

My name is Ender Broda, I'm a Second Life resident. I was hoping someone could help me with this, as it's a bit of a quagmire.

Though the universe and complete plot are still being fleshed out through drafts upon drafts of stuff, I'm working on something that I'm hoping to be revolutionary, as much as it is ambitious.

It's a scifi television show, with the intention of being made specifically for release on the internet (with later releases of the work as DVD collections). The original idea was to do this all in Flash, mainly because it's easy to create and animate if you have the talent, and converting that all to DVD editions that people can see on TV wouldn't be too difficult.

However, I'm curious about the abilities and limitations of Machinima. (interestingly enough, the series is called Machina: Revolution). I was thinking about designing the character looks, uniforms, spaceships and such through SL, or even just the sets themselves (later animating characters using Flash or Swift 3D). I wouldn't mind even doing the whole thing through SL as complete machinima but I don't know how that would work, as there's a range of emotions in my characters that need to come through.

Beyond that, my main concern, even if just creating sets and animating over them later, is how the resolution will play out when expanded to DVD. What I mean is, with Flash, it's all vector drawing - it doesn't matter the size you start, it will look the same with no distortion blown up into something larger. How can this be avoided with machinima, if at all?

I understand completely that what I'm intending to do is far beyond the norm for what is considered the standard length of machinima. I'm trying to develop a two-hour pilot, see how the reception for that goes, and then take it the next step into a series. I know it would need a lot of work, a lot of help, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get this off the ground and moving in whatever format is deemed best.

This is also being done with the intention of starting a production company called Neon Apocalypse Entertainment, which can be centered in SL, or anywhere really. I just want to make it happen, get this off the ground in whatever format, and leave the door open for other series or movies, be they machinima or not.

Thanks, and please let me know what you think.

Take Care,
Ender Broda

Hi. My name is Drake Shiras, and if you need acting/voice acting, I may be of service. I can do many voices, accents and impressions, including British accent, Italian accent(NY), German Accent, deep growling, high pitched growling, Pirate voice, alien voice, Arnold Shwarzenneger impression, Sylvester Stallone Impression, Millitary officer impression, etc. Also I am very good at improvising or improving dialogue where it may be weak. Contact me VIA IM if you want to meet for an interview.

*edit* I also am quite good at editing and adding music to videos in case that's another thing you may need.

Here are a few videos I made using clips from Star Wars Galaxies and Freelancer

I'm an experienced builder and scripter in SL, and former theatre major in RL. I've also made a short machinima film in SL before. Anyway, your plan does sound very ambitious, but it sounds very interesting, and I'd love to help. I can help with doing voice/avatar acting, cinematography, scripting camera movements, photoshopping, set building, finding venues, script editing, etc. IM me inworld or my email is aquieous@yahoo.com if you still need more people for your project.

No, not subscribe to your newsletter, but I'm okay with that if you're planning one as part of production.

Seriously, if you need someone and don't mind that this is my first time at such an endeavor, I'm in.

One thing nobody has said yet that would be real helpful is to make a GROUP in-world. THEN anybody who is/would like to be involved can get your Notices/updates, and vote on ideas (so YOU can judge feasibility from the responses) etc

ALSO...any definite "Staff" that ya wanna work with can be assigned a job Title, so ya can keep track of everybody.

Don't need ta be the Company name! Just maybe the Machinima's name... sounds like ya got good ideas hope it works out

I like the idea of creating an inworld group for such projects. Great idea, Xio. That way everyone involved gets updates and info at the same time. I will have to try this on my next "big" project.

There is an inworld group (ActUp) now working to produce live theater on Broadway Live Island. It already has 4 scripts (one-act plays) it is working on. It is already subdivided as suggested here. I have provided a TeamSpeak server so they can use voice to collaborate on scripts and rehearse. They are aiiming to open when the grid gets audio.

When they get some good productions, I will make videos and post them on YouTube,

They would certainly be interested in Sci-Fi stories suitable for adapting into one-act plays. Can anyone write us some new Twilight-Zone scripts?

Just out of curiousity, is there some client/backer for this project? Or are you relying on the enthusiastic people in Second Life to create some sort of promotional/hobby video?

When I first read your post, I worked out some numbers in my head regarding the raw data that would need capturing to make such a feature. We capture at high resolutions with quality in mind, which works at a rate of 20-30mb raw date per second, even with our 1.2tb SATA II storage facility, that will take some space, bearing in mind that not every ounce of data captured is fully useable. I know that you can compress the data on the fly, but this effects final output. We have created movies for TV and RL broadcasting from within SL with good results.

The idea of creating small serial chunks and blending them in a movie editing programme is potentially the only way you are going to acheive the results needed. Which is not just my humble opinion, but the way of RL movie making.

We have experience in making short sci-fi style movies amongst others, see Starfleet here http://www.wba-advertising.com/weaponsexpo07/combatexpo2007.html as an example and are proficient in Blue Screen Chroma Keying techniques. However, whilst we would offer to either carryout some of the blue screen special effects, we would like to know what this project is leading to and its aim?

Doesn't work for me. Just gives me the Quicktime symbol and that's it. Waiting 5 minutes now and still nothing.

Hmmm.. I just tired it again and although it worked, it did start slowly... ran great the 2nd time, but when I checked the stats, I realised we had over 120,000 visitors to the website today alone. I migh have to mirror the website on one of our other 3 servers.

the source movie is here http://www.wba-advertising.com/weaponsexpo07/starfleet/starfleet2_mp4.mov
