I posted this on Resident Answers, and am posting it here as well since
it actually affects machinographers more than the average user:

--

I just noticed something odd and was wondering if it's happening to
anyone else.

Using the latest release (v1.20.17) I noticed that if I turn off the UI via the
Advanced menu (Ctrl-Alt-F1), that the particles that swirl after an AV has departed remain. They just keep swirling around and round. Changing to a darker color.

Here's a very short video clip to show exactly what I'm talking about:

If I then hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 again, the UI comes back and the swirling particles
fade out as usual.

I often use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to film machinima and haven't seen this behavior before.

Anyone else see this?

Yes, I see it all the time... I believe you can turn that off (although not sticky) in advanced menu, rendering, particles.... although I believe there is a debug way of doing it as well.

Thanks, AWR. But I don't want to disable particles. I just want departing AV's particles to work the same in non-UI mode as UI on mode.

=)

There's a JIRA entry for this problem; please vote for it to be fixed.

Infrared, I've had the same problem... the solution is Control-Alt-"=" or control-shift-alt-"="

Not in world to test at the moment, but its one of them that turns off particles. When you hit it again I beleive the departed particles are no longer there, this way you can turn them off and back on quickly.

I have the same issue! I hate it because a lot of times I need particles- since we do some in world effects in our videos, such as fog or rotating graphics around an avatar, and it's really annoying when the person in charge of props has been editing something and I'm looking through my camera with the UI off, I have to flip it on then off again. But it's extra annoying when we make a particle effect appear through object editing or clicking a particular invisible prim or what not- so i need particles on but we see the stars. The whole thing is a technical nightmare- I hope they do something about it soon!

I'm sure I read somewhere on the forums, someone said editing particles are different to inworld particles and can be turnned off in the debug menu.....
