hello, sorry if i cross post.
Im building a gallery for Stelarc (the famous rl cyborg).
im having issues with streaming videos into the gallery.
I have full access to the land etc. I have subdivided to allow more than one video.
There seems to be this thing where you cant SET a ytube video in place because an hour or so later it 'breaks' and you have to re-set it. why does this have to happen? Im told its 'normal' wtf???
so i switched to using 'Blip' which is better resolution but the video takes AGES to load. (too long for a passing visitor) (worked fine in the uk, slow in Usa, not at all in canada, very slow in australia)
i need a simple and easy way to have video's play on demand . Other people seem to manage it..whats the story??
some help with this matter greatly appreciated!

Greetings... What you are perhaps experiencing is network traffic. We have 5 servers located across the US and Europe. Tying them to load balancers to hopefully give each viewer an equal chance to see our movies with the highest quality. However, not everything in life is equal.
When people from different locations, can or cannot watch the same movie, the chances are it is down to Network traffic. The source of which could be traced to any location along the route, including the bandwidth of the network at the delivery end, right up to the Node of your local connection.
Another thing, is the data bit rate at which the movie(s) stream at and what codec has been used. It is one thing to have a small Data Bit Rate, by using a high codec such as mp4, can cause greater system overheads at the viewers end. To see this, Press Ctrl+Shift+2, this brings up a window that reports the various centers of loads placed upon the client. The Lime Green portion of the top graph is where UpdateImage is reported. Turn on one of your movies and watch that grow. Most of our movies are targeted to be around 25%, which is well within the average system to cope with, whereas a lot of movies load between 50-90%, balance that against the data bit rate (the kbps the movie streams at) and you maybe loading the client to the point that it stalls the stream, when combined with running SL.

Honestly, Ive had people complain about video on Blip taking ages to load, and I must say, it has to be the way YOU are converting the quicktime files. We at Metaverse TV have a PRO blip account which converts a normal high quality WMV to flash as well as M4V. We use these M4V conversions for On Demand in our televisions and they load instantly with almost no load time at all and these are 100+ meg files.

I've been making, hosting and streaming movies for years in SL. What I have noticed in the past 3 months+ is changes in the client software that has had an effect on the 'streaming' of movies in SL. Sometimes one of my movies will show right away for some people and not others. This includes my own system, some days a movie pops in right away, other days it acts like download and watch style. Given that the biggest variable is the prolifercation of systems out there, and the timezones, I suspect that it has more to do with location and the changes in the client, which is causing multiple (and variable) amounts that the rendering texture is being spammed to the client. If everyone were having problems watching the same movies, then I agree with your perspective.

Then you need a permanent link. You can use a free service called YouTubeMP4 and replace the word "VideoID" below, with the value of "v=" variable of YouTube URL : http://youtubemp4.com/video/VideoID.mp4 This service is for free and sometimes it is off-line. Try to use my media center, i have 3 dedicated servers and the service is allways on-line, and you can use HTTP addresses from Youtube, Revver and Dailymotion too, and get my permanent link. The system can play a list of videos in sequence too and is compatible with Livecast. To learn more about my system, visit the link below : http://xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=764893 Best regards; Sylvio Runo
