We just finished a commercial for Wilder PR Inc in Second Life. It is going to be broadcasted on MBC, you can grab a peek here http://www.wba-advertising.com/wilder/wilder_pr.html

We used several techniques to create reflections and most of the shoots were done in our studios using our own avatar control systems.

The Clients appear in the movie in a lead role and were excellent to work with.

Thanks Robustus... It took some working out, reflections in glass and mirrors aren't natural in SL let alone in machinima.

We used Chroma Keying of two seperate movies, both scenes are shot at different times. The only way we found to do this effectively, is to use our own bespoke avatar controlling systems. This can control speed and direction of the avatar down to 0.001 of a meter and 0.00001 of a second in time.

Placing the camera in exactly the same position, we use the system to control the avatar walking past the window set we created, then doing the same scene again, this time making the 'glass' one exact colour, that we could then extract from the frames, inserting the now alpha film into the window frame behind the layer of the first scene. This did require 3 layers of movie. The window scene, the avatar walking past with the whole scene in a chroma keyed colour, and then again with the avatar walking past just the frame, so we could crop the shot to only the glass extents.

In the car scene, we couldn't find a car that was detailed enough internally, so we made our own, well the bit you can see  . The mirror, again was a chroma keyed solid colour, we took footage of the avatar walking in the backdrop scene, and layered that into the mirror.

It was great working with Annette and Bibe, they were very patient and quick learners of our systems. I believe they enjoyed the experience, although, now they saw how it is done, it perhaps looses a bit of its magic LOL..
