Videos (and music) are not like Textures or Animations - you don't upload them to the SL servers. Instead, you host them yourself. Then when an AV watches your video it goes directly from your server to the AV's client - it never goes through SL's computers.
If you already have a website you can store the Quicktime-compatible video files there. If not then look for a website/service that allows you to link directly to an uploaded video. Blip.tv works well. |

Thank you very much!
But what about when you record your own video? |

They are saved locally on your hard disk...

The first time you start the movie it should come up and ask where to save it, I choose desktop just cause it is easier to find. Click the menu option again to stop/save it. (or use the short cut key)
Once you set the location, every on your start during that session will save there. _____________________

I have the same problem

Unlike a snapshot when I choose the menu item to save a movie to disk nothing happens. Someone told me that it would be in my SL folder, but there is nothing there either. Perhaps if I knew the file format it saves in I could do a search for the latest of that file type.
Is there any tutorial that deals with this? thanks Mel Brown |

same thing here - i start a movie, it pops up to ask where to save, i choose the location. not knowing if the movie starts as soon as i choose the location, i wait a few seconds, stop the movie, restart for a few seconds, etc to try see if anything saves to my hard drive and nothing does. is there a recent bug with this or whats up?

I have a hunch that the ability to capture movies to disk might be dependant on the amount of RAM you have or possibly the video card. I will try a test with my low budget laptop system later and see if it works to save the movies.
Melandra: When the movies are captured they are saved in .AVI format. THe first time you save one you'll be asked for a save location and a filename. after that all the movies are saved with that name plus a suffix of _001, _002, _003, etc. So the default name for the first movie you save would be SLmovie_001.avi |

Well, I did a quick test with my laptop. It has a poor video card and very little RAM. I was able to start a movie capture to disk and did get the standard save file and compression requesters. So I guess my hunch was wrong.
![]() If you are still having troubles capturing moveis to disk, you might want to try a 3rd party program like FRAPS or a free program called Taksi. In my experience they work better than the standard SL movie capture. |

ok.. I have fraps. I will give that a whirl... long time since I used it though.
I have lots of memory and a good video card. I can run photoshop with my 40 meg makeup file loaded for my skins and SL at the same time. I will do a search for the .avis thanks |
