Hello everyone,

I am an actor currently finishing off an MA in classical acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

I am in the process of writing my disertation about acting within Second Life. Being a keen gamer and theatre goer I have always been intrigued at the prospect of acting meeting online worlds, unfortunately (despite having wasted many many hours on WoW) I am still quite new to SL and my experience with the world is somewhat limited.

In order to gain more of an understanding of acting within SL I would love to hear from any actors, or indeed audiences, who have taken part in any live shows or films in SL. It would be a huge help to me just to ask a few basic questions of the actors, "Did you approach your character development during rehearsals in your usual way?", for example to make a huge difference to my understanding of SL acting.

Please feel free to contact me within SL or via these forums, where I will be happy to IM you my personal email address to make things easier.

Thank you in advance, really looking forward to hearing from you!

David Spence

PS. I would also really like to hear from any actors/directors with up-coming shows in SL which I could come and buy a ticket for!

for your reference:

OPEN AUDITIONS for "One's a Pawn of Time" by Mike Dederian

In the Second and Third weeks of September, the SL Shakespeare Company (SLSC) will be performing a one-act play about time travel and precarious interpersonal relationships. This play will be produced by Ina Centaur and Enniv Zarf, and directed by Prospero Frobozz. We will be holding auditions on two days:

* Saturday, August 2, 2pm SLT
* Wednesday, August 6, 8pm SLT

Auditions will be inside the Globe theater : sLiterary (21, 10, 24) -- http://slurl.com/secondlife/sLiterary/21/10/24
􀀀

Come to the audition ready to read a short monologue from a modern play. You will also do cold readings of the play that we're planning to perform.

The show has three parts, two men (Will and Bill) and one woman (Lucy). The plan is to cast a primary and an understudy for each part, although each understudy will be scheduled ahead of time to perform in at least one or two performances.

The show will be cast and rehearsals will begin by August 13. Performances will be on the following days (all times SLT):

* Friday, Sep 12, 7pm
* Saturday, Sep 13, 11am
* Sunday, Sep 14, 3pm
* Tuesday, Sep 16, 1pm
* Friday, Sep 19, 7pm
* Saturday, Sep 20, 11am
* Sunday, Sep 21, 3pm

Actors and acting in SL

The Act Up Theater Company is rehearsing a full length production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." That will run this weekend. For details look here:

http://ivyfallstalent.com/midsummer.htm

To find out more about this group, contact Ada Radius or me, Thinkerer Melville. The company has produced several shows in SL.

I will be making videos of the presentation and publushing them on my Virtual Village Cultural Channel:

http://www.thinkerer.org/VirVilCultural/VirtVillCulMSND.htm

The channel currently carries an interview with the set designer, Rekka Berchot, about the unsual set. I call the interview "Theater in the midst."

We also have several comedy performers, including Stand-up and skits. Some acts are presented here.

We have a number of theater professionals in SL. Trip Potvin runs Broadway Live Island:

http://www.broadwayliveisland.com/

Trip Potvin is Tom Polum in real life. He is a producer, actor, writer, comoser and -- well just google on the name.

On my island, Cookie, we are currently preparing to have workshops that bring together actors, directors, and writers. We have a number of original scripts and seek to encourage more by having scripts read aloud by actors. This will be collaborative work. in which the actors help develop the dialog and charactes.

For more information on this, cotact Ada Radius or Thinkerer Melville

Hey guys,

Just wanted to say thanks for getting in touch and giving such informative responses.

Dekker Raymaker, I have heard of the SLShakespeare co. and have been very impressed with what you have done so far...I actually reffered to the SL Hamlet in a presentation I gave in my second term. Unfortunately, I will not be able to get to the open auditions as I will be studying in Moscow at that time. I will however, be joining up to the SL group and getting in touch.

Thinkerer Melville, very exciting news about 'Dream! I will definitely be coming along on to see the show this weekend and would love to be able to ask you a few questions about it afterwards.

Thank you once again for your help guys!

The Cybernetic Art Research Project's (CARP) current production is 'The Wall V-2', a show of epic proportions in SL terms. It has already been performed to more than 1800 people, but only four shows remain before it closes. Details of the next performances are here:

On 6th Sept, CARP's next production premiers, 'The Rings'; again, a massive stage show in SL terms. You are welcome to come see a rehearsal, meet the actors and production team. Contact me in-world if this is of interest to you :)
