HOLLYWOOD Mar 26, 2006 -- Early last week four new sims appeared in the vincinity around Hollywood. Named the Channel Islands after the Southern California islands of the same name, a look at the map below will show how closely the sim islands match their real life counterparts in shape. Located at the center of four of the sims is the new Angel's Gate Lighthouse topped by the Angel's Gate Observation Deck and Bar (best stocked bar in SL). Angel's Gate will become the center of activity in the sims as spectators will have a spectacular five sim view of the races. The new sims are the first 4:1 Sim pack that Linden Labs will be offering as an alternative to the traditional 1:1 private island sims. There are four regions on a cpu, not unlike the void sims on the mainland, but with a big difference. The 4:1 package is more robust and allows up to 1250 prims per region plus scripting. Starboards Yacht Club has been conducting tests over the past week on the new sims. Commodores MarkTwain White and Nber Medici are pleased with the results so far. Many comments by our testers have confirmed that the 4:1 package seems to be more that equal to the task of running multi-sim races in a low lag setting. The current tests have been run with 500 prims (including scripts) per region. the newly formed Channel Islands Community group expects to open the sims up to four skippers who will be supporitng the complex with monthly tier payments in exchange for leasing the four islands. A waiting list is available for skippers wishing to apply for future openings. Contact MarkTwain White or Nber Medici for details. With the expansion of the SYC sailing complex new slips have been made available to Tako 3.1 skippers on a first come first served basis.

I have seen the same kind of void sims on the mainland, and I'm really interested to know what makes them "more robust" when on a private island. Am I missing something?

From: Jesrad Seraph How do I buy a 4:1 package of islands ? I suggest you direct your question to Cyn Linden. We are currently working with her on the 4:1 package we are "testing". At some point LL plans to market these, but they are not available at the moment. In the meantime, come by Hollywood and see a 4:1 package in operation as the Channel Islands (Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and Santa Catalina sims).

Woo hoo!
This will be fantastic for private islands that are actually trying to set up an 'islands' environment, with room near them for fun in the water! Place a brace of these next to a regular island sim, as noted above, and suddenly you have lots of navigable water in which to swim, surf, go boating... this ROCKS! Water sims in particular don't need anywhere near as much prim count, and usually wouldn't have as many agents per sim on them as land sims would have. So this is perfect! I really love this!
* Runs off to point this out to the sim owner she is developing islands for... *
