Evening,
Been following the development of the Flying Tako and the SL races for some time.
I have water in Lane and Wingo, both bordering void sims around the Dog Head island. That's 20 plus sims. Anyone is more than welcome to launch from my quays. Careful of the automated shipping tho'.
Is there a version of the race wind repeater that I could put onto my land? Then anyone who launched a flying tako from my docks would get a good wind to use.
Thanks in advance Tip

Found and bought, thanks for that. And of course that raised another dozen questions. I've put the wind repeater out on my land in Lane, I assume that is all I need to allow just to allow people to casually sail around the void sims? Can you reccomend some sensible settings? Thanks again Tip

From: someone I've put the wind repeater out on my land in Lane, I assume that is all I need to allow just to allow people to casually sail around the void sims? Can you reccomend some sensible settings? ...oh, sure!.. ...as i'm sure you've already picked up, SL's wind is unrealistically chaotic and extremely tedious to sail on...many of the tako sailboats support a 'touring mode' where they generate their own wind, but of course this means that any two boats sailing together experience different wind settings - this is why we use windsetters, to ensure realistic consistent wind for all boats sailing in the same area at the same time... ...sailing around large groups of voids sims, though, we've encountered another problem: rogue windsetters...there's nothing malicious about them, it's just that if there is more than one windsetter in an area, tako sailboats update their wind to match the most recent windsetter they happen past, which in large void sim races might only affect certain boats and not others, depending on the course they take... ...i don't know which version of the race-in-a-box you have, but the most recent start lines, in conjunction with the flying tako 3.1, remedy this problem by locking the boat on its current wind setting from the time it crosses the start line until it crosses the finish line, under race conditions... ...if you don't have a start line deployed, this doesn't matter, but if you do i recommend contacting the person from whom you bought it to ensure that it's the current 3.1-enabled version... ...okay, you can ignore all that if you don't care about racing and just want to enable consistent casual touring!.. ...wind settings can vary a lot, but there are only three basic variables: direction, speed, and rate of change...a windsetter's direction is really an arbitrary decision, but it's often selected to make certain elements of a course more interesting to sail - obviously different wind directions require different tactics to navigate the same course...windspeed is also a bit of an abritrary decision, for example windspeeds at vagabonds yacht club events range from a snails-pace 0 all the way up to oh-my-god-turn-off-the-tornado double digits, but most people are comfortable sailing under average winds in the 5-10 range...you can also set the +- range by which wind speed and direction vary from their average settings, and along with the rate of change this is largely a matter of feel and personal tastes, but as an example i keep my own windsetter on cosy island set at (dir225 spd10 dir+-15 spd+-2 rate1) which provides for zippy but not breakneck speeds, and pretty minimal and laid-back wind changes... ...hope that helps!..

Thanks very much.
I've installed the wind repeaters in Lane and Wingo with a 5mph offshore wind. To find them, look for the large 20 m long freighter. Near that is a small grey lighthouse which contains the wind repeater script. There's plenty of water between the two to rez a dinghy.
I'd be interested to know if anyone uses them.
Tip.
