Yesterday I started a new group called the Land Barons, just for the sheer humor of the title prepended to my name. After adding some members and a fellow group owner, and deeding some land to the group I thought maybe the organization could be put to constructive use. I see several people posting about their thoughts on the economics of SL; how it used to be, the state of the market, and where things are heading. If we had an active team that tracked the real estate market, and watched out for inflationary or deflationary shifts in retail goods it could be a valuable service to shop owners, people wanting to buy or sell land, etc. Other ideas are tracking "hot spots" for expensive or cheap land sales, finding out the average disposable income for players, what products sell the best, etc.
Nothing is set yet so if this angle of the world sounds like something you might be interested in send me an IM in game and start throwing ideas out.

It'd be extremely helpful to see brief summaries of economic trends. I'm definitely no SL economist since I dislike that part of the game to begin with, but it's a nightmare searching for land now.

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

The only data source I've found so far is the completed auctions on secondlife.com. You can get the data for the last five days, convert the USD values to L$ values with the current exchange rate of the GOM market (or other way around), and find daily averages for 512, 1024, or L$/m2 costs. As far as an effective way to track hotspots of find out disposable income, I don't have any ideas; was just throwing out some wild stuff.

I believe if you check the "search titles and descriptions" box and don't enter anything in the Search box, it will show every auction that's ever been in the system. Doing that now, it appears to be working, but I'll say it looks like it's going to take at least a few minutes if not several. But feel free to wade through all that data
