The Stanford Library is now online!

Just dropping a note to let everyone know that Second Life's first Library (to my knowledge) is now up and running, we have a small selection of books right now but the number is ever growing. Feel free to drop by at any time and visit, we stock classic literature (all written prior to 1923 for copyright reasons). If you have a specific request please leave a IM with me and I will do my best to make sure it gets in there and I will IM when it is in the library.

You can IM me for a Landmark or just fly by Stanford 149, 75.

Also all of the texts are free, if you would like to display the book at home or your office they can be purchased as well.

I hope you all enjoy it!

Neil, I have book models for Poe and Carroll I'd like to donate. Also have other book models you're welcome to use for 'decor' if you'd like. Let's look for each other inworld.

Thanks,

Library! Great idea. What do you guys think of stocking original fiction by SL authors? I think this could be really neat, but personally I would worry about copyright things when it comes to uploading my original stories.

Yeah, the case tends to be that if it's been disseminated before, publishers get leery about picking up a story. So you could upload stories that you don't see yourself bothering to send to a publisher.

(disclaimer: IANAL, I am not familiar with publishing laws, but I have been active in groups that had precisely this concern)
