Hey all,

Don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but...

I just got my first land in the last landrush, a robust 1024 acres in Albion near a dormant volcanic crater.

Well, dormant anyway until a few days ago, when it started erupting and spewing all manner of red-hot lava-filled fun.

It doesnt damage me or my house so Im considering it a plus!! Quite the landmark I'd imagine....

When I build my permanent house Im thinking of adding a volcano viewing platform. Zap on over to my (temporary) house and check it out from the roof.

Albion (233, 186)

Its the house with the giant TV rabbit ears on it, you cant miss it.

Walk outside your house and check out the signs around the volcano.

Howdy Neighbor!

Seriously, anyone living around the volcano who has any questions about the eruptions or concerns about roof fires and lava flows, please contact me.

And don't forget...when in doubt.....DUCK...AND COVER!

:P

Hey Zero -- the question is, what's going on inside the crater, under that false lava-dome y'all put up to cover your activities?

I mean, during the last eruption, I found a way beneath the rock under the lava pool. That's a big place you've got there. What are all the thousands of AV's and weapons racked on the walls for?

You have penetrated my underground lairrrr! (holding pinky up to mouth)

Seriously, I hope to set up a nice meeting space under the lava for when it's just molten and not too crazy. It's really neat to sit down there and talk, with slowly cycling lava above your heads and plumes of steam gently rising around you. I encourage people to check it out.

And we'll probably have motorcycle races down there during the eruptions. VROOM!

For those interested in the Pomponio Volcano and who may have missed it erupting, I've put a picture box up on the rim of the caldera. It's cycling through a number of pics that people took during the eruptions.

And if you see me working around the volcano, please come up and say hello. I'll be happy to give you a demonstration, and would love any feedback or ideas you might have for making the area enjoyable to everyone.

Hi Zero, Octal!

Howdi Neighbors! I've just moved into Pomponio (156, 176) via the Land for the Landless program (it's kinda like an FHA loan you don't hafta pay back LOL)! Right now my house looks a little too "office building" for my tastes. I've started designing on paper IRL a new house that will integrate with the landscape (hopefully) perfectly. It'll be made of stone outcroppings with glass walls etc at sharp angles. Do either of you know what texture is used for the Volcano itself? I am thinking that I should vary the tone here and there for intrigue and realism, but I didn't want to use just *any* rock texture

I'm also interested in helping to throw a block party for the Volcano residents! If you guys are interested in this let me know :-)

Oh, and how bout some shout-outs from the other citizens of the caldera?

Hi Taun.

Ah don't you mean a rim party?

Yuck Yuck

I'm a neighbor just below the Volcano on the cliffs of Albion.

Hey Merwan! Do you get lava and ash on your roof too? It's quite the backdrop, and to think I wanted waterfront property!

I'm thinking of putting in some of those trees that can flame when the Volcano blows its top... Zero, is there a way to script that ( if VolcanoStatus = KABLOOIE then turn on flaming tree lol)? If you have a schedule for the eruptions it would help us calderans get into the spirit and help take the sim too far :-D

Greetings Taun!

Great to have you as a neighbor! Right now, the volcano isn't on a schedule. We'll, it's on the "whenever Zero manually throws the switch" schedule. :P But I'm working with cua Curie on trying to get a scheduled eruption working very soon. It will have a countdown timer telling you when the next eruption will be. I am also going to be working on laying out some lava rivers (I placed markers yesterday on the land).

I love the idea of a block party for volcano residents. Meet your neighbors! Another new resident directly adjacent to the crater is LexyCat Medici, and she's an event planner in RL who is going to be helping me organize volcano-related events in the near future. I'll try to put her in contact with you, since her skills at event planning can definitely help us get this block party going. Try IMing her as well..she's usually on in the evenings.

And after we're all moved in and settled a bit, we can invite the world to the volcano for a BIG blast! (pun intended)

Sounds AWESOME Zero! If you want to run a lava flow thru my property I'd love that -- I might make a vent or something that runs through my house since I want it to be more eco-friendly to the volcanic ecosystem (read: grass?! we don't need no stinkin grass!!!) I could build my place over the flow, like it was a river. You'll have to check with the residents above me since I'm maybe halfway down.

LAVA LOVERS UNITE!
03-14-2004 09:22
OK so I have met quite a few of the volcano neighbourhood now. BUT I STILL NEED TO MEET MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I've started a group for landowners in the area called Lava Lovers. If you are interested in joining please just IM me anytime!.. Also, I suck terribly at building (as if you all cannot tell yet) so I wold be most appreciative in any suggestions or help I get in setting up the "Lava Interpretation Center " (LIC)
This will be used for all of SL to visit and enjoy the history of the volcano as well as serve as headquarters for our llava community developers. I will also have official LavaWear available in the near future.

Interested in helping out with our opening party? IM me anytime! I'm usually just wandering aimlessly among the land!

:p

Hey Lexy!

That glass building I was working on yesterday was going to be a geothermal proccessing plant, but could easily be converted into a LIC (lol, play on words eh?). How about a balcony area where you can either press a button or pay $1L or something to fire off the volcano (and have that money go to the Lava Lovers to buy more of the land to make the lava flows!!!)

Lava LIC'ers (er... LOVERS) unite!
