Newbie problem: Chat spam error message filling my screen

Hello, I'm a new player and I'm having a problem with something I don't understand. As I'm exploring I sometimes come to places where I get the message:

Object: Script trying to stop animations but PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION permission not set
Object: Script trying to trigger animations but PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION permission not set

Sometimes it repeats over and over until it fills the screen and I have to flee the area.

I asked somebody ingame about it and he said it was caused by something I was wearing but it happens no matter what I'm wearing. Just to be sure I went to an empty building where it happens and removed everything but it didn't help.

Can anyone tell me (preferably in terms a newbie can understand) what is causing this and how I can stop it?

Not sure if this is the right forum to ask in. It's probably more a newbie question than anything but there isn't any "New Players" section. *hint, hint*

Its caused by an attached object. Check under Objects. Note that objects are different from clothing.

If you bring up the chat history (CTRL-H) you have a pull down menu of all the people/things in your immediate area making chat. You can then mute those objects making all the mess.

I've had this problem happen once. It was after having found a box of free items left on the ground for newbies like me, one of the items was a pair of wings, and once when I was wearing them I got a similar kind of chat spam. I'm not sure of what triggeed it though, if it happened when I entered a building with the wings equipped or something, because it only happened once, and then when I de- and re-equipped the wings everything was okay again. It was no biggie in itself in fact, so I quickly dismissed it, but well.

In order to animate your avatar, scripts must ask for permission. If the script does not have permission to animate you, then you will receive those error messages every time the object attempts to animate you. As previously mentioned, the problem can be solved by detaching and then reattaching the offending item. The act of reattaching the item will, in most object, request permission again and the error messages will disappear.

Hi Snowglobe. I've seen you around the grid. :-) I think you have my calling card; next time I'm on and this happens, IM Me and we'll see if we can track down the problem.

It can also happen if an object you're not wearing is trying to animate you. An example of that is the "dance machine". Go to any club and you will see some sort of machine that causes your avatar to dance.

These dances are animations.

So check and make sure you're not wearing any attached objects (the simplest way is to go to clothing and drag another folder on your avatar. This un-equips attachments and clothing while loading the new outfit).

If it's not an attached object, then it could be something in one of the areas you're visiting.

Thanks for the replies. I can't get back into the place where it always happened to test it, the elevator is gone, but when it happens again I'll search every folder for some hidden attached object.

If it only happens in a certain location, it means it's not an attachment, it's an object in-world. Push Tab to look at the last object that spoke. If you're being inundated with chat spam, it's going to be that one.

If you get a popup that says "this object wishes to take permissions", and you click "no", that will usually cause the error you're seeing.
