What defines an "early creator"?
For me it is a person who was here when SL was called "Lindenworld".
I ask since there is quote(s) in Hamlets article from a member with a "birth date" of 2003-04-02.

I don't consider myself an early creator, but I think in a sense everyone in the beta is an early creator. Maybe that's what he means. Just out of curiousity, when did testing first start? I mean the alpha?

The only thing about the stuff built in LindenWorld is that it got wiped out when it was changed into Second Life. So I'm not sure if "early creator" refers to the few and proud creators of the stuff in LindenWorld.

Early Creator info
06-05-2003 14:25
Sorry, I should have given this information to Hamlet, and instead I am giving it to everyone here.
The Early Creators entered what was then known as Linden World on March 7, 2002.
The EC program officially turned to the Closed Beta program on October 9 of 2002. During that week, we moved from a test grid of 9 machines to the "real" grid of machines and transferred the Early Creator Accounts to Closed Beta Accounts.
The first group of Second Life residents who were NOT Early creators was let in on November 7, 2002.
The Closed Beta program lasted till April 24 of 2003, and has been the open beta program ever since.
Just some reminiscing here: We knew our residents were going to be strange and wonderful when Steller started by making a huge beanstalk out of semi-transparent curved leafs.
We realized how much fun avatar creation was once we held a costume constest and realized that the residents costumes were not only better than ours, but were finding every way to use the early flaws in the system to make even better avatars.
The governors mansion is a relic from the Early Creator program and is still one of the best designed massive houses out there. We realized the power of events when we held pool parties there.
We were delighted and amazed when we held a fireworks contest, and despite having master scripters here at the office, the residents made better fireworks than we ever had.
The good old days weren't always great. We rolled back to previous versions a number of times. We introduced some impressive bugs that caused entire server wipes. Open hours were from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. Average FPS was less than 10 for a while. Ouch
We learned alot during out halcyon days of youth, we are still learning now. All things considered, we think we are moving in the right direction, and we only have you to thank for it.
Have fun

Great insights, Peter, thanks-- I should get more Lindens to come in to offer their own, too. (The Oral History should be a collaboration of both, I think.)
Also thanks for the breakdown, with dates-- for what it's worth, I defined "Early Creator" as folks who were here during Lindenworld all the way up to, say, October, when it was still closed Beta. I didn't specify that in my topic, as I recall, so that's my fault, if anyone was confused. (Though the quotes I used were good and reflective of the *relatively* early days, I think, so I'm happy to have them in there, EC or otherwise.)
