Hello, I am very new to this place. I've taken a look at this program, game, or whatever you call it. I noticed that your character location is pretty much is limited to a single world with unlimited lands. Would it be possible to...
* Make the world have limited lands? * Multiple planets with very different colorful grounds and terrains besides green, brown, and tan color? * The person is limited to teleporting anywhere on one world(
I also have another question.
Is it also possible for your avatar to have a different type of a skeleton system(ie replace humanoid legs, arms, and make them act like a dog, cat, bird, alien, etc)? Havent seen this lately..
Anyways, I just came here to say hi.

Also, non-biped (humanoid) avatars are not available by default, BUT many residents have managed to do quite a bit with what is available. If you look up Psyra Extraordinaire, for example, (or see him in the welcome area), you will see some fantastic examples of avian avatars.
A lot of this is accomplished by using custom shapes which are attached to different parts of the avatar's body, or using custom animations to (for example) re-position an avatar's body in ways that (in the real world) would not be physically possible. Folding them up into a ball, for instance.
Non-human avatars are a constant request from residents, as are new terrain types.....outer-space, small planetary bodies, caves, tunnels. This is a new world for all of us, even the creators the Lindens, and they're breaking new ground as they go. With luck, these requests will become features in a future update, so that if you're still playing next year, you may have these options available.

The only alternative world you can access is the preview grid. There is at least one development grid, and there will soon be a teen grid.

Hello, Coine, and welcome to your Second Life!
Almost anything is possible to do in Second Life (SL), given enough time and patience. Of course, some things are very hard to do, and that's why they'll be uncommon sights...
SL is just "one world with (almost) unlimited land". To give an idea, after 5 months, I have explored perhaps 5% of it (I'm optimistic!), it has grown 25-30% since I started, and probably half of those 5% have changed as well. I'm not a math expert, but if these assumptions remain, this means it will be impossible to ever explore it all.
I understand your idea of "going to another planet". Even if we had that possibilty, the truth is, *one* planet is big enough for the current population. Remember, culture in SL is pretty anarchistic/libertarian, so it would be very, very hard to convince a lot of people to do a coherent "planet" with exotic and unique landscapes. Unlike other VR platforms, Second Life is built almost entirely (> 95%) by its residents, and each has his/her own idea of what should be built. So, "other planets" would just look "the same" - everybody would be building to his/her own heart's content, and there would be absolutely no difference between the "current" planet and the "outer worlds"...
Answering your question on "different landscapes"... yes, there is no limit to what you can do for landscape texturing! However, the "mainland" - as opposed to the private islands off-shore - have been done by the Lindens (employees of the company). They tend to limit themselves to two different texture sets: the "usual" greeny stuff and the snow sims. However, absolutely nothing forbids owners of private islands to use completely different textures for their own landscapes (except for the sky). I have seen one private island with reddish textures with alien moss - sort of a "martian wilderness". You can do whatever you want on your own private island! Then again, they're under control of the player that "owns" the island, of course.
As to non-biped avatars... I guess Unhygienix has explained it thoroughly. The current avatar skeleton is unfortunately biped. There are dozens of tricks to do animals, though. Psyra Extraordinaire, as mentioned, is very good at those. Her zebras look quite convincing - front legs are part of the avatar, back legs are just prim attachments, but you can hardly note a difference - when standing still, of course!
Have fun in SL!
