Hey LL, Hammy's computer isn't to great. How about a new graphics card for Hamlet! His article pictures make SL look like crap because of his bad graphics card. I'd really like to see Hamlet get an upgrade.

Who's with me here?

YEAH! Some of the pictures that come from the NWN don't look as good as they could. Give him a better comp! We want better quality pictures to come back to a year from now and view!!!

I say make Hamlet and Philip use ATI cards until *all* of the issues are resolved!

I heartily agree. He needs a kick-ass graphics card to make those screen shots.

I endorse this product.

Poor Hammie can hardly move sometimes, it was painful to watch on the Walk Across the World.

Sniff, sniff-- I'm touched by this collective call for a better
computer for me!

Thing is, I go into SL with 2 computers, one at home, and
one at the LL office, on the occasions when I'm there. Are
folks noticing a difference in graphix quality between the
two, or do they both seem non-optimal?

I took these pics on the home PC:

And these on the work PC:

Which is better, which is worse?

The images seem about the same in quality, though the compression really kills them. Can't do anything about that if you want to keep things small.

Yep. Unfortunately, the blog software we're using doesn't
allow larger image files, compressing them down to like
30-50K. Maybe that's the problem people are noticing,
and it's not a deal with my PC.

Though of course, I'd always welcome a new computer.

Looks like your home computer has more terrain rendering enabled than the work computer. And lighting/shadows maybe?

I'd be more apt to make a decision based on the specs of the computers, if you have them.

The work computer terrain reminds me of my old GF2MX.

Edit: Actually, a listing of what Display/Options Prefs are set to on each machine would help too. Maybe the machines can handle the settings, but they aren't turned on. Maybe they can't :(

Yeah, your draw distance looks like it's down a little low in that one gay pride picture.

Hamlet, I can't help you with your video, but if you're still having problems walking around, you should IM me. I have a script for sale in my Chartreuse store that may actually help -- I guess you get the Linden discount. :)

Or, you could employ a photographer :-)

I have a 128 ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, at home, and an
Nvidia GeForce 3, I think, at the office.

At home, I got Local Lighting, Shadows, and Bump
Mapped & Cloth (for Avatar Rendering) selected;
Terrain Detail at Some, Gamma at 1.00, and I usually
run SL windowed in 800x600. In the Options tab, Avatar
Detail is up to full, Object and Tree Detail in the middle,
Draw Distance at 125, Bumpiness Draw at 5, Max. Particle
Count at 2816, and Outfit Composite limit at 5. Whaddya
I tweak, to make things better?

(I love this, the residents are giving a Linden the tech
support!)

Hoorah! You mean it actually combats lag?

Well, it doesn't COMBAT lag, but it makes it so you can move a lot more easily. You still have it, but if you push forward, then release, you'll only move a few steps instead of 20. :)

So it's like lag medicine... It counteracts the symptoms of lag only making things SEEM a little better.
