It was a windy day upon arrival at the tropical resort of Cape Destiny, an island organized by a local clan of the Spencer Family. The sky is blue as it always is in all places on SL and this time the wind was high though it seemed to settle down quickly enough after arrival. An old cannon points out over the sea. One wonders if it was once a point of defence or only a decoration. A faint ringing of the sea buoys can be heard in the distance. Overall this island seems pretty well planned out in an organized arrangement.
Cape Destiny Rental Office
The teleport drops you off in front of the Cape Hope rental office. An automated message greets you: “Hello shinmai Akebono The Spencer Family welcomes you to Cape Destiny.” In first impressions this seems to be a friendly place. The rental office is a two story grey building with decks on two levels and a blue roof. It is slightly reminiscent of a large ocean side home one might find on the coast of Main in the Northeastern US. Within is an information computer monitor that displays the rates for apartments located on the island. There is a small fireplace and a baby grand piano that seem to fit the decor of the place nicely. In one corner is a small spinning globe of the First Life world. The second floor leads up to a balcony that provides a nice view of the ocean. Upon leaving the rental office I noticed an old ships wheel and compass. Upon the wheel are teleports leading to the five apartment complexes located on the island. Looking to the right I could see a porch swing swaying slowly in the island breeze. The only thing I can think of to improve on the rental office would be the hardwood floor texture. It is a little too small and hard to see. There is very little contrast. Maybe if the boards were a little wider and had a bit more contrast, its effect could be easier seen. Behind the rental office is a tall lighthouse. I came in the daylight hours so the light wasn’t functioning at the time. I walked around the base of the lighthouse but didn’t see any entrance to it. I guess that it is more decorative then functional. I found it rather amusing though that I could walk up one of the sides, at least until I hit an overhang ledge high above. Overall it is a nice coastal home and office. Well time to try one of these teleports.
Cape Destiny Rental Complex
Four rental suits sit along the eastern side of the island. Each apartment is a resort type condominium flat. The apartments go from ground to fifth floor and over half of them seem to be occupied. Each apartment has a large deck with a good view of the ocean. There is easy access to the docks for sailing boats and wind surfing. A grassy meeting area with a gazebo and small fountain sits in the southeast corner of the apartment complex along a rocky shoreline. A few butterflies flit back and forth over the lawn.
Cape Destiny West Beach
A warm sandy beach lies along the west and northwest corner of the island. Set toward the back of the beach area is an open air bar of some sort decorated with Tiki torches, ferns, and many places to sit. The decor of the place seems to be very south pacific. To the left of the open bar is a large bubbling hot spring. This confirms my curiosity about the river with two ends I saw earlier. Steam floats over the water and bubbles swirl around under the surface with a quiet burbling sound. Ferns and a few lily pads line the outer edges of the hot spring. On the opposite side of the open bar and more noticeable is a glass sided sauna, glass from without looking in but wood from within looking out. I would think that it would be the opposite. Passing quite literally through the doors I noticed that the sauna has places to lay and sit and in one corner there are shelves containing towels and lotions. The sauna has three settings, steamy, very steamy, and super steamy. Actually even at the highest setting the steam is comfortable and not too much. On the northwest corner of the beach there is a place to play volleyball and even a remote sky diving centre. Within the centre is a small shop where parachutes, helmets, coloured smoke, and goggles can be purchased. There was even a skydiving jumpsuit available. On the side I noticed a selection of three surf boards. Probably a little business on the side considering the centre’s close proximity to the beach. Lift chairs in front of the centre lift you to a height of 1000 metres and then drop you off in the air. From the air you open the parachute and glide all the way down. The goal is to skydive and land upon a target below illuminated by laser light. The accuracy of the jump is automatically recorded. There is a drop shift to one side of the skydiving centre. I suspect that this ship will take you up even higher. Walking to the edge of the beach next to the skydiving centre, I noticed a white line extending out into the water. I am guessing that this is a start and finish line for boat races that circle the island.
Notes:
A river cuts across the island dividing the apartment complexes from the rest of the island. The river flows into the ocean in both directions. I can only guess that it must be fed by a hot underground spring.
