It IS Second Life, however it's entirely PG, has a seperate economy and is quite small, population and land mass-wise at the moment.
Armath & Bokkie are the first Teen Grid residents to turn 18 and transfer over to the Main (adult) Grid. They've both posted to these forums with some observations on the differences, you might try reading their entries or looking them up in world (when it opens up again). Things are less expensive, the community is tighter, due to the smaller scale, as the Main Grid was in the early days, as I understand it. _____________________

My daughter plays on the teen grid, and for the few days that she played, I sat beside her to tell her how to do things.
It's a small world, there is barely any shopping there... actually, there isn't much of anything there YET. One of the first things my daughter wanted to do was change her appearance. She couldn't find any stores selling skins, hair or clothes for that matter. When she finally DID find some clothes, they were free. Good thing bc jobs are hard to come by. There didn't seem to be much to do in Teen SL, and my daughter was quickly bored with it. I told her to stick with it for a few days, and then see how she liked it. She did, and she has made some friends so she likes it better. To me, it seems more like that virtual chat room LL was trying to avoid creating than a virtual world. A hearty round of applause goes to LL for creating a safe(r) place for kids to play, but they should give these kids a hand up in this strange nw world. Even the pilgrims had the indians. _____________________

Sounds pretty interesting... I've just recently turned 18... but I wonder what one in a teen SL would do seeing how most jobs are centered around the entertainment industry which some large parts are inappropriate, and because most good quality skins and clothes are made by those who work with computer graphics IRL. I highly doubt you'd find too many computer graphic child prodigies lurking...
I'm interested in seeing how it will work out.. but it sounds like it's headed for disaster... I think the rest of my post would suit the "Giving Lindens suggestions" forum. |

------Suggestion------ (I guess this is the right place)
Okay well seeing as how I believe that the Teen SL will probably collapse upon itself due to the lack of a fruitful economy I think it would be an interesting thing if it could, in some areas or something, interact with the adult SL... Although it would make terms and agreements more sticky to deal with I think it would ensure the longevity of Teen SL. Maybe Retailers would be able to sell clothing and skins in Teen PG rated areas which are accessable to both... You could set up software that could make it possible that adults only interact with teens in those areas only, and have those areas be monitored, or chats logged... It would also help with the monetary situation in SL. You could hire teens 16+ to monitor certain areas, and get some adults to. It creates jobs... And I think it would make the teens a lot happier to have some good quality clothing, skins, and objects to amuse themselves with. You could also have ppl monitor the shops to make sure that which is being sold is of PG nature... And it might also encourage designers to make some PG friendly clothing and some more cute, or creative clothing... rather than always making hot pants and wet t-shirts *shudders* As far as the body parts on the skin, they could be altered to possess no parts, or be censored some how.. maybe permanent underwear that's colourable or something in order to make sure nudity is minimal... *Shrugs* It's an idea... Hey I'd be willing to do some monitoring *Nods* |

How do you sign in to the teen website to change your account information? There's no log in there at all. Only sign up.

On another note because I can't find it I"m going to rant about this even though I've called LL and emailed them a mess of times on it. I also put it in the right place in General (/108/a8/59791/1.html) but could not find reference to it up here in the forum area that Lindens might pay attention to.
I got myself an account a while back and helped my boyfriend as well because he wasn't working at the time when we signed up. Now he is working and he moved his account to his own card. Finally they come out with the teen grid. We're all so excited. I tried to sign up my two teens. But alas! No can do without me getting another credit card because I'm maxed out on the card thing. WTF!!! I am a widow with two teens I do NOT want to get more credit cards as I have enough problems keeping within my budget to begin with. I pay nearly $100 a month (I know- less than most but still) to play this stupid game and yet I can not sign my kids up to play unless I go out and get another credit card?! I did that once before with something else and I am still paying the hidden fees on that blasted card. I do not want to do that again. We even tried to get one of my kids their own debit card but they're not old enough for that yet, only an ATM card. They should make a family plan. Heck I'll even send in copies of birth certificates or something. This is just not right! I am seriously considering quitting, there are more family friendly companies in the game world. _____________________

*Pokes everyone with a stick* Exactly the problem with the idea of the teen life grid...
A. Only teens have access...no rebular residents may look in C. There is a hard and steep learning curve for ANY teens which i dont think are going to take the time to try to learn...hey they sound like me...learn on the fly ![]() F. <suggestion> Teens should get access to pg only areas of the grid and there should be a language filter they have parental locked that way they get to not only cross the grid, but have access to things the adults made. Z. <suggestion> Adults like us should volunteer to help out the teen grid with professions they could fill on needs of the group. Yes there are some who care more about porn then anything else, and besides i am sure like i am, not many kids are gonna be very pg ever. G. Why would someone want limited access when the kids could lie about their age and get into the adult areas? I certainly would sneak into the main grid instead of being so limited in the teens area... D. Idiocy terms-Words used to replicate curses or norms of the group. Nother group could try to host events in the main pg grids just for teens, but thats not possible as of now. B. <suggestion> Kids should also not be alienated from events just cause of their age. What the heck is going to keep their interest when there not allowed to do things? I know i'd think that we would of thought this out more before it was released, but now i cant even visit a couzin of mine ON the teen grid without causing some violation of the tos for trying to make a teen character. For now i have no reason not to fib a friend just to get into the mature grid <not saying i have> but we need to have dedicated people and groups that will allow access between the grids to help out everyone. |

What about a website like "slexchange" or "slboutique" that only allows pg items, and can only be purchased by linking your (teen) account information?

Hi..lil late to this but thought I would respond.
I agree about the lack of things to do there. My sons have signed up and were happy to be wandering around in free Halo avs. But the money quickly ran out with no way of getting more. I don't have any solutions to suggest for that though. Hopefully something will work out. Torment, perhaps you can email secondlife and ask about your CC. I did that and was told that as long as I never logged into my son's accounts, everything would be kosher. I used the same CC for all 3 accounts. Good luck with that!! Anjaleka |

I'm very interested in publishing reports from the Teen Grid on New World Notes. If you're in the TG and you gotta an opinion of it, send it to me, either by Private Message or e-mail hamlet@secondlife.com. Can TG Residents transfer notecards to MG Residents? If so, you can send thoughts and comments that way, too!

Like i said, i believe we need groups of volunteers of all professions to just popularte the teen grid with stuff to do, and hold events on the main grid they can cross over to go to at times, weather it be pg or mature. There are plenty of pg dances/pg events/pg poetry/bananna phone
NOT ONLY THIS....But i have been yapping with my mom, and I was thinking of helping her get adjusted to second life in the neat footchur, to help organize a Homework Help program for teens to get answers to problems of irl questions for homework/tests/quizzes. This could help start up new programs in second life teens by opening a testing centre in a game just dedicated to helping kids with their homework....TAKE THAT PAY TO HELP CENTERES! MUHAHAHA!!! I WILL Krush, KILL, N' DESTROY YOU ALL!!! ![]() |
