You aren't a true beta member unless you have complained no less than three times about how the second world has transformed in to a bunch of casinos and clubs. So here's your chance; what would be a good idea for land? I am about halfway through constructing the Pharos Lighthouse (one of the seven wonders of the world), with nine stories including the observation decks and underground lairs. Currently it's just a big empty construction site, but what would be something useful that could be done? I could turn the main floors in to apartments, but that's even pretty faux pos these days.

Best use for land is what makes you happy.
I have a maze and an upside down room attraction on my land. Almost no one comes to visit, but I enjoy having them there. If one or two people stop by and have a good time, thats enough reward for me. When I get tired of having them there, I will tear them down and do something else. Thats the beauty of SL, you never have to be finished building. _____________________

I bought my plot because I really liked the way it looked when the Lindens first put it up for auction. So far I haven't thought of anything that would give me more pleasure than the privilige I now have of strolling about and not bumping into malls or night clubs or little boxy cabins.
And, appropos of nothing, there ought to be a law against really really tall buildings which rez slowly and have overhanging roofs (sorry, but I just bumped my head). --Almarea |

Almarea, my building IS a really really tall building with a small overhanging roof. The three tiered design of the lighthouse and it's position on the edge of the world ensures you probably won't bump in to it, but the massive amount of textures guarantees a slow rez

I bought the 2/3rds sim plot, covering 4 sims, so that people will have a place to hold educational events, house a useable and currently running library, and have a quiet place to work in a lag-free environment.

When i joined SL over 3 months ago...one thing inspired me to stay. Building.
The ability to create anything within imagination was what made this community worthy of leaving any other PC game that i devoted my time to. I have become a success by some people's standards, and other's have begun hate campaigns. If anyone thinks im going to let strong arm tactics or negative rating by their alt acocunts deter me from doing what i do, forget about it. Those that share my sim and would like to hold events of their own should know that im willing to coordinate with them on any event they may wish to hold and i will be felxible in scheduling to accomodate. I dont run events durign the day or even every night, so anyone who thinks i have ruined their precious sim please contact me if you have not already. |

couple of thoughts:
1. There are a lot of land owners that shouldn't be allowed to build. I see enough trailer parks and double wides in my day job thankyouverymuch. 2. If I ever accidently stumble into club elite again, I'm going to detonate something. whatever it is, its going to be messy. 3. WHERE IS THE BLACK SUN? jeez, you think somebody would have done a homage to it by now (or maybe I'm missing the 60 already made that no one visits). 4. Why buy a plot of land when you could build a hovering platform that you and your friends could hang out on? its free and the neighbors rarely become an issue. 5. There is a complete lack of ego masturbation when it comes to building a place. I'd have CoCoNoNo in blazing hot pink mounted right behind my obscenely ostentatious Throne on top of my over the top pyramid. _____________________

I built a Bouncy Room (though it's on my partner's land not mine) for people to bounce and have fun in. And they do.
I think people should do what they want with their land, but the best places are where you can hang out with your friends and have fun. |

The bouncy room rocks! (when used for short periods, that is). Thanks Rysidian.

Eddy your Tower Looks Great.... I'm trying to keep my Field blended in with the tower next door.
I pretty much rebuild once a week. Guess it goes back to my lego addiction when i was a kid. Its your canvas get creative and have an open mind about other's land. Your taste's will differ and they may think your land looks like crap too. Cept for the big For Sale cube's they need to be banned. |

I've constructed a sort of homage to Super Mario Bros. on my land. I consider that to be kinda unique in SL.
I'm pretty intrigued by Loki's upside-down room as well as the Lighthouse and Stonehenge. I'll have to check 'em out real soon. And of course, I offer the obligatory agreement that I've become bored with clubs and casinos. That seems to fly in the face of conventional wisdom about keeping lag down and never betting against the house. Any other ideas out there? Perhaps a model of the Epcot center, complete with towering cement block-structures and a giant whiffle-ball with bored visitors lined up outside. ![]() _____________________
