The Legend of Radium and Darwin
09-02-2003 16:56
Or, what goes up in SL can't come down again.
After launching their ship straight into the ground, Darwin and Radium rapidly ascended past the cloud layer and broke out of the atmosphere.
A number of strange spatial phenomena were observed on this journey, among them:
Apparently the "crystal spheres" containing the sky and stars are actually cubes! The corner of the sky was observed in one picture. In another instance, a gap in the stars was observed.
There appears to be a radiation band where everything glows green.
And beyond that, space becomes a rather vague concept, allowing you to be observed in one location while you appear to yourself to be in another!
Sadly, I must report that Radium was not able to return to us, contact was lost as she attempted to return through the atmosphere. We have not given up hope, since the bizarre time-space phenomena surrounding both astronauts is unexplained and means anything is possible.
Indeed, just as Darwin reached 3 million meters up, and we had given the both of them up for lost, massive chunks of sky fell upon the landing pad in a giant confusion of smoke, and out of the middle of it walked Darwin!
He looked shaken and tired, but brushed it off flippantly, casually saying "Hi guys!"
Thus the space launch was a partial success, in that boredom and tragedy only claimed a part of the mission.

I've decided to see space for myself. Just so you all know, around 5 PM PST in front of the SL Consumers Report building I'm going to duplicate what darwin did. However, I will not stop until I reach 6 million miles.

You know, if you want to compare lengths, it would be much easier to just slap'em on to the table and get out a ruler...
Just so you know the "ceiling" is at 10^38 meters. Good luck getting there. By my calculations it would take 5707762557077625570776.2557077626 million years at darwin's speed. I think the whole universe won't last that long...

Oh and RSFB, bare in mind that 6 million meters altitude, at darwin's speed, would take you 3 hours.
