Random Acts of Kindness

Last night I logged on to find the happy message that I had been given $2000 for referring someone who signed up for a premium account.

I IM'ed them to ask which of my Real Life friends they were.

Turns out, it was someone whom I had greeted in Ahern just an hour or so earlier, and who had decided to cancel their trial account and sign up for premium under a new name. I had helped them, given them a copy of Cubey's basic plane, encouraged their ambition to open an SL airport and pointed them at Abbott's Aerodrome. Because of these acts, they had decided to put my name as the referring person.

I am surprised and delighted. I don't hang out at Ahern as much as I should, but now I think I may be seen there much more frequently!

That's wonderful, Lisse!!! i'm also a firm believer that no act of kindness goes unrewarded!!! :D

Just yesteday someone complimented on a 'frosted' rose that I had in my hair, so I gave it to her! It made her very happy to receive it and it looks beautiful on her! :) Then she realized that it was not copiable and wanted to return it. I wouldn't hear of it, tho, because it made me feel good just to be able to do something to brighten her day.

Imagine how shocked I was to learn that she owned a store of her own and offered me anything that I wanted in it 'free of charge'!!!

She has so many lovely creations that it was very difficult to choose.... but I did finally decide on a Fireplace with a secret door! It's absolutely gorgeous and this lady 'really' needs to advertise!!! She's extremely talented and has many unique items! Check out 'Fly Sky' if you have a chance and you'll see what i mean!!! ;)

Thank you so very much, Sky!!! You are much too generous. It was, after all, 'only' a rose! ;)

We need more of an epidemic of good deeds in here!!!

Hugs,

Lady Y've

Lisse,

thank you for starting this thread. too many times people start a thread to complain about what one person did... how nice to see one started praising what one person did.

and now it's already been continued by ladyyve.

these are great. i'm sure this was the idea you had, Lisse, when you started this thread.. to title it so you could let others know about your experience, while leaving it open so others could share theirs.

i know our community, at it's heart, is strong, intelligent and humane. others have taken notice of how tightly-knit we are.. and i believe it's due to our core. the core that is a company who is actively involved in the community and SL and a community that believes in SL and is made of everyone from hard-core coders to casual SLers.. i believe it's the combination of intelligence, good-will and working towards an amazing future that emboldens this entire experience.

in other words...

Excellent! :D

This might be an appropriate thread to put this:

Being a noob, and having only joined yesterday, I was flying around generally exploring. I landed at someone's house (by the sea, with a jetty), and started talking to it's owner. I told her I was a noob, and she gave me a whole load of stuff (jetpack, gift boxes, motorcycle etc etc).

I said thanks, put on the jetpack, and took off, intending to just 'go around the block' and come back. Unforunately, I got completely lost and can't remember who she was or where she lived. I didn't even rate her, because I didn't know that was possible.

Aaaanyway - If you're reading this - thanks :) , and loads of good Karma to you.

Thank You, Missy!!!!!

I had a problem figuring out a texture I bought from Missy Baldwin and IM'd her. She was off line, but kindly sent me a reply. I was off-line, then, so it went to *my* e-mail....

Well, she must have been watching for me, because when I logged on this morning, Missy contacted me almost right away and helped me fix the "problem" (which wasn't a problem, just a case of being unable to *FIND* the [insert adjective here] information I needed from SL/Linden) and was MORE than gracious as she helped me.

Anyone who knows Missy Baldwin, please hug her for me!

Two things:
PLEASE, is there *anywhere* I can go to get less basic but not scripting/developing-level info on how to do simple things like load purchased textures and applying them to inventory items? KB is down, and I hear it's out of date, anyway....

Second, *WHY* was the "rate" button on Missy's profile greyed out? I *really* wanted to give her a plus-rating, and couldn't. Do I need to do that "in person"?

Sort of, yes. To rate someone, you have to:

- be in their presence
- have their calling card
- have access to an object that they either created or built
- know where they live in-world (not sure about this one, never tried it.)

This is, I believe, intended to keep certain unmentionable types from simply using the "Find" button to neg-rate everyone whose name starts with an X or some such equally stupid thing.
