He is still around, he was in world today. There is no "e" at the end of his first name, its Aleksandr Martov. Maybe that is why your not finding him.

I don't really know him personally, other than he did some work for a friend and another friend worked on some projects with him. I don't know any details other than his account has been cancelled and he is gone from the game..at least as Alexander Martov. He could have reincarnated himself in another name. My friend told me it left a ton of people in a lurch, having paid rental fees that are now lost, have things in his name, etc. I hope this helps a bit.

From what I know Alexander has decided to no longer play Second Life for personal reasons and has cancelled his account and is no longer in the game. There is more to this story of course but I shall not devulge personal information...even if he is no longer within the game.
I suppose if you are in the castle mall that it is just a matter of time before the land goes up for auction and someone buys it. If you are in the Cartier Mall, booths are being transferred over into Clint Cartier's name. Other than that, that is all that I know. People have been trying to convince him to come back, but it is in vain I suppose.

Like Teja said, Depending where you are you might be SOL on your rent.
I have been trying to get all my mall tennents to my rent boxes.
Eventually all of alexes boxes will be removed from cartier mall. So if you renew with his boxes, you might be out some rent. Most of them I have been lucky to delete when they expire, or the vendor has contacted me and I have been able to work with them to replace the rent box and credit them equal or greater rent.
But it has been over a month now and I will need to remove all objects by alex soon.
